Age Group Rank = 6/40
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 4am ate some cream of wheat got ready and drove to the site arrived around 6:15
Event warmup:

walking around and to the swim start. Swam about 200 yards
Swim
  • 30m 8s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

started over 15 minutes late because of people jumping in line with higher numbers, it didn't really affect me, but I didn't like it. Swam better than I have been the last few tri's, not sure if we were swimming into a current or not but my time still seems slow. no issues with bumping, or navigation. Just swam steady.
What would you do differently?:

maybe go at it a little harder I seemed to get too comfortable at times
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

put socks on for the first time since I blistered up last year, took me a little longer than normal
What would you do differently?:

nothing, just pick it up a bit
Bike
  • 1h 06m 54s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.29 mile/hr
Comments:

biked well, this is a very hard course to keep a high speed going, seems like everytime I would get rolling I would have a turn or a bump coming up. rode about 90% took breaks across the rough spots and RR tracks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, the course dictated my speed today if it was smooth would have been at least 1mph faster. I had the course at 24.2 miles, I think last year it was just around 23
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

long way to the dismount and they made us slow quite a bit, a little slow in t2 took a drink of my infinit before the run which cost me a few seconds
What would you do differently?:

get the drink before the dismount and put belt on as I'm running
Run
  • 48m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

feel ok and thought I was running 7:30's, but first mile was 7:39, tried to pick it up and thought I did then the second mile was 7:39, at that point just tried to maintain but got a little slower. I felt good during the last mile, but a little too late. I wanted to run 7:10-7:15 range and should have but not sure what happen
What would you do differently?:

get after it early and not fall into a feel good pace.
Post race
Warm down:

not much walked around with my wife

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of mental toughness, I need to get that back

Event comments:

I was 8 minutes slower than last year, I like the race and it looks like they are going to pave some of the rough spots on the bike, but this course will always have some rough road and RR tracks and lots of turns. I like the swim and run and will be back. I'm a little disappointed with my performace but I just wasn't there mentally and need to step it up.
