Pre-race routine:

woke up at 3:30, drove to the race and got there at 4:45 to make sure we got into the park lot. Set up transition and chilled until the race start. Had a bottle of powerade and a powerbar.
Swim
  • 23m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice course with the first couple hundred yards into the sun. Did a good job of navigation and drafting and tried to monitor my effort but may have gone just a tad too hard.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

No problems, pretty quick. Bit of a long run to the rack from the water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 51s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 20.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good. Passed lots of people on downhills and took the uphills fairly easy to not overextend myself like I usually do. Passed the wife just after the end of the lollipop which was encouraging.
What would you do differently?:

Take in more calories and make sure to monitor my HR closer.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Ran past the rack due to the huge downhill, took extra time to put on socks.
What would you do differently?:

maybe skip the socks as I didn't run the run anyway...
Run
  • 1h 03m 8s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

epic fail. jogged failry easy for about the first mile or so trying to get my HR to come down and get comfortable but it just didn't happen. I eventually had to walk on all of the hills and slowly jog on downhills. I took in gels at the 2-4th aid stations which seemed to help and by the last 2 miles I could lightly jog except for the one last hill. Very disspaointing as I was in the best shape I probably ever have been, but it seems like I just ran out of gas. I probably need to start using gels on the bike to make sure I have enough energy for the run and/or monitor my HR more closely though I never felt I was really pushing overly hard at any point during the race.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out a proper nutrition and pacing strategy.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a bunch of water and gatorade and walked around for a while. My HR remained elevated for a while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nutrition and pacing. bonked horrifically on the run.

Event comments:

Great race. Very well run. Scenic and fun course but very challenging. I would do it again and when I do it will be time for payback.
