Event warmup:

Did a light .75 mile warm-up to loosen up the legs a little.

Comments:

My goal going into this race was to be under 1:24, and my goal pace was around 6:25. Unfortunately I apparently didn't take the shortest line on the course and added and additional .23 miles to my run.

My pace was spot on, and I averaged 6:24, but that extra distance killed me in terms of overall time.

The weather wasn't all that bad, in fact it was pretty decent for the end of May. The race started out in the upper 60's and was partially overcast. The killer, though, was the humidity. At the start of the race humidity was around 90%. As a result, at each aid station I tried to cool myself with a cup of water and also manage to drink some as well. The sun also came out for the second half of the race, bringing the temp up into the mid to upper 70's by the time I finished.

I was a bit upset with not meeting my time goal, but, as Katie pointed out, I did hit the pace I wanted. I guess if I want a certain time goal I'll have to factor in running a little extra and shoot for a slightly lower pace to make up for that distance.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe shoot for a pace closer to 6:20. That would have gotten me the time I was hoping for.
Post race
Warm down:

I meet up with Katie, who ran the 5-mile race. She came in just under 40:00, a time I told her she could hit. She was pretty pleased. We grabbed some bagels, drinks, and then walked around the exhibit area a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am currently in marathon training, so I've been getting in some good mileage. I guess more running would always help. Maybe I'll target a late fall half to better the time from today.

Event comments:

I was a bit upset at the end for not meeting my time goal, but I did PR by 11 minutes from a fall marathon, and 18 months ago I struggled to get under 2:00 in a half marathon. I look forward to seeing where my improved fitness takes me in my next races.
