Swim
Comments: Swam pretty decently. Jumped foot first into the pool and then I was only passed by 1 guy in the water. The big problem was I forgot to take my socks off and as I was running to the pool I decided just to keep them on. Having the socks on made kicking feel weird. My arms did feel a little dead from the run and bike. What would you do differently?: Take off my socks in transition. It was a reverse tri and a short swim so it really wasn't a big deal. Transition 1
Comments: Reverse tri - transition from run to bike. Popped my shoes off quick, quickly through my bike shoes on, then the helmet and away I went. What would you do differently?: Pretty good transition. Almost got ran over by some guy that started riding out of transition... passed him about a mile down the road! Bike
Comments: There were headwinds that swirled into crosswinds. Headwind on the way out and crosswinds at times on the way back. I worked hard to keep my speed over 20mph on the way out. There was one spot where the wind knocked me down to 18mph but I quickly got it back up over 20mph. I passed quite a few people, especially the guy with the NAVY tri uniform on that I wanted to beat. A guy with a Army bike jersey on was joking with the Navy guy at the start line and I backed the Army guy since I served in the Army as well. What would you do differently?: Not much to do differently. Would be neat to see how fast I would have gone if there was no wind. Transition 2
Comments: Reverse transition from bike to swim. Transition was pretty quick. Racked my bike with ease, popped my shoes off, grabbed my goggles and took off. Had a little bit of a run to get to the pool. Forgot to take my sunglasses off. Put them in my tri-jersey pocket while I was running to the pool. Also forgot to take off my socks... realized it while running to the pool but went ahead and swam in them. 1st attempt to put on my goggles - goggles were upside down. I was still running to the pool so no big deal. What would you do differently?: Take off the socks. Remove sunglasses. Look at goggles so the go on right the 1st time. Still put average as the transition was quick. I also had my running gloves in my other tri uniform pocket. Run
Comments: Ran well. I had a very steady pace the whole way. I would have liked it if they had the mile markers up so I knew how I was pacing... but oh well. What would you do differently?: Run faster... but I am happy with my run time. Post race
Warm down: Got some Clif Bars and then quickly went to my bike so I could take off my wet tri top and put on a dry shirt and my jacket. The breeze was making it quite cold. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind and socks in the pool. Event comments: Had fun and that is what this race is all about. It is a 1st race for a lot of people which of course makes a few things a in transition for example a little crazy (note: I had a good spot in transition). Up near the front it wasn't as crazy. My friend Steve wanted to do this race because it was the first one he did 2 years ago. It was interesting to do a REVERSE-TRI. Some things you get used to doing in transition do not work in a reverse and you need to remember to do other things. (i.e. my socks). I almost placed in my age group (4th out of 60) and finished in the top 3% of the race. Also the girl from the Soboba Casino gave me a whole box of water bottles. I have all the bottles I'll need for a long time! Last updated: 2006-03-25 12:00 AM

Stayed at my friend Steve's wife's parents house. Very nice house with a very comfortable bed. (Note to self - maybe get a new comfortable bed! rather than the hit or miss bed I have).
Ate a Snickers Marathon bar and drank some water.
Jogged about 1/2 mile with Steve and then did some stretching.
