Overall Rank = 36/100
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 2/6
Pre-race routine:

had granola breakfast.
Event warmup:

none- there wasn't very much time between the opening of the transition zone and the actual start of the race
Swim
  • 11m 33s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim was both easier and harder than I thought it might be. The water was totally comfortable, and clear. no waves at all. I found it harder to site even with a straight up and back course. The timed start (5 sec between) kept us spread out in the race which was helpful for a first time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 1
  • 05m 27s
Comments:

the path from lake to t1 was up this incredibly steep hill - i had to walk it. But not having a wetsuit makes the mechanics of transition super easy!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 44m 42s
  • 10 miles
  • 13.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Had to get off and walk the bike twice - once because the hill came upon me suddenly (there was a young girl walking her bike ahead of me, so I just walked with her to the top of the hill) and the second was the last very long, very steep hill. My buddy Jerry was walking ahead of me - he had a broken spoke - so I walked with him to the top of the hill. Overall I thought the bike portion went much better than I expected.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

The distance from dismount to the Transition area was short enough that there really wasn't any need to run or dismount at speed.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 24m 46s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Surprising how good my legs felt after that bike course - I was able to run most of the course - only the high hills put me in a walk. the last part was a nice flat straight away which was really nice. The volunteers along the entire course were really great too.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walked around - drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

If I were better at siting in the water, I think I could have gone faster - if I had fixed my front derailer on the bike I might have avoided some bike walking. Running is my slowest part though, so I guess running was my limitation.

Event comments:

Since it's my only race, it's my best!
