Pre-race routine:

This was a vacation and nothing was normal. Little training during the week, bad eating, and messed up sleep schedule. It was all fun though.
Event warmup:

Swam around a little to stay warm.
Swim
  • 23m 4s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Waves were really small, they should do a mass start or two waves not 6.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, a typical swim for me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Maybe could have been 10-15 seconds faster, had trouble getting my gloves on. Cannot complain though.
What would you do differently?:

bring my other gloves that I know go on much easier.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 44s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 9.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I probably went a little too hard on the first section before crossing the road. I had two crashes, minor ones but they did hurt. My right ankle is still a little swollen and sore. I was able to ride the really steep hard climbs on the 2nd half of the course which was a little victory in its own right. I was definitely slower on the 3-4 miles we did not pre-ride.
What would you do differently?:

Not go so hard the first 3 miles. Be patient to pass (that caused my second crash when I rushed to pass a slower rider).
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Again a little slow with the gloves coming off. The rest was smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 34m 30s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

This is still the part I need to work on for the Xterra races. These races are much longer than my typical training days and the fitness is lacking a little past the 1:45 point. I can run fast stand alone races, but at the end of an Xterra I am hurting...a good hurt though.
What would you do differently?:

I am definitely ramping up my running for next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat down with the family and ate some food and drank liquids. I was a little upset they had the beach closed off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The vacation week definitely added a little tiredness to my body, but I still performed well.

Event comments:

It was a good place for a vacation race and got to go against Juston on one of his "local" races.
