Overall Rank = 2/248

Age Group Rank = 1/30
Pre-race routine:

Another week of taper after Heritage. Ez ride Saturday. Light dinner Sat night and early wake up (4:45) with banana and piece of toast with peanut butter and jelly. Drank a bottle of gatorade the night before and the morning of due to humidity (approx 80%)
Event warmup:

Two easy jogs with a couple of race pace pick ups. Two different swim warm ups because of transition closing 1 hour before race started. Should have sat down that and waited for race but was up walking around the whole time....started to feel it after the hour????
Swim
  • 06m 56s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

Led everyone to the first bouy. Stayed side by side with one guy, noticed Trevor coming up on the outside and tried to catch his feet. Touched them a couple of times and felt bad so I backed off for a second....or did he take off??? : ) And then he was gone....
What would you do differently?:

Should have pushed harder to keep his feet and tried to draft him on the way in.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

watch slipped out of my hand while trying to put it on, cost me 10 seconds. SMOOTHE IS FAST. Fifth fastest T1 overall. Flying mount worked ok. Not perfect.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down just a tad putting watch on.
Bike
  • 32m 59s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 22.61 mile/hr
Comments:

1:22 behind overall bike leader. (:02 behind race leader) put me at -0:16 after swim, -0:08 T1 , -0:02 bike TOTAL 0:26 behind after bike. Brought back 0:03 during T2 so 0:23 behind starting run.
What would you do differently?:

I raced very hard to this point. Nothing I would have done differently. Very well executed to this point.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

VERY GOOD T2!!! Not only felt good but showed up on time as well. 4th fastest overall but fastest out of top 5 finishers (not sure about accuracy of top 3 in T2). Good job of unsnapping helmet while running to rack. Quickly put bike away. Put both shoes and picked up racing belt in one fairly smoothe motion.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Great T2. Keep practicing them.
Run
  • 21m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Just held on...went about as hard as I could and if I would have had 1 more mile I would have physically cracked...but not mentally!!
What would you do differently?:

I paced it very well. Ran comfortably hard the whole way without a watch to tell me what pace I was running. For some reason auto multi sport didn't work.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a water immediately and then a gatorade and then whatever food I could shove in...I ATE IT !!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think that was as fast as I could have gone. (ok, so maybe less wind and less humidity but beggers can't be choosers)

Event comments:

Event coordinator has made this race huge in the last two or three years. VERY WELL DONE AND WILL COME BACK NEXT YEAR. Changed bike course in the week prior to race and recieved no notification but course was well marked. (original course would have had fewer turns) e-mail would have been nice saying to check course change or even at packet pickup could have been mentioned (even though there was a "new" map laying out on table)

HR is through the roof !!!! Avg 172 and Max @ 177 !!!! Don't even train that hard with Z5 runs !!!! HR started at 167 off bike. You can tell that I was pushing it really hard on the last 3/4 mile w/ HR jumping 3-4 more beats per minute. Probably about time I saw MTC guy running me down (realized later he was doing long course)(not that I could have stayed with him anyway)(just tried to make it hard for him to beat me if he was in my age group)(knew I was still 2nd overall in heat)
Course: Easy and steady climb of 50 feet until 1 mile and then down hill / very small rolls here and there with wet pea gravel to run on.
