Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast at around 9:30am; had egg white omelette w/cheese and salsa, coffee, water. Played with kids, put laundry away. Left to drive to race at 10:30 for 12pm registration. Race location was about an hour away.
Event warmup:

Walked around a little bit and slowly jogged only where flat or downhill; stretched; tried to keep warm. Drank some water. Tested blood sugar and ate a couple of apple slices.

Comments:

I felt like I paced it just right for my level. I ran slow and steady up the hills and would pick up the pace downhill and where the course was flat. Nice small race.
What would you do differently?:

I probably should have left a layer off. I felt a little hot 1/2 way through until the end and should have left my jacket behind.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around a little bit in the parking lot. Drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wasn't totally sure how to pace myself up the hills, probably could have gone a little bit faster but didn't want to burn out/blow up.

Event comments:

Nice small scale race, very friendly volunteers, one drink station at mile 2. Good race for my tri training but not sure I'd do this one every year since had to drive an hour to get to.

Course: They weren't kidding when they stated it was a hilly course! I drove up a hill on the way to the race parking lot and thought "I hope this is not one of the hills on the race course". Well, sure enough it was! The last killer hill at the end of the 4 miles. The race also started out with a very steep and long hill. We ran by many beautiful horse farms and there was a little stretch on a main road, so had to run in shoulder (no sidewalks). Felt safe, though.
