Swim
Comments: Really needed more warm-up time after not swimming this month except in VERY warm Hawaii! Horrible first few laps, finally got settled in mid-way and found my groove. There was a sprinter in my lane who would go fast, pass everyone and then get tired and be passed by everyone. What would you do differently?: Swim more in the pool, find another way to warm up. Transition 1
Comments: Much better than last year due to much shorter run and more reasonable temps. This year the women got the close pool . . . Took the time to put pants and a jacket on with my gloves. I was glad I did. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: This is my second, I believe, time out on my bike this year. I have put lots of trainer time in though. Initially quite cold, but the sun appeared nicely mid-way through so I was OK except for my tootsies. The roads were wet and I am a wuss so I slowed down quite a bit for the turns. I was hacking and snotty from my residual cold and three times had to wipe a viscous bodily fluid from my bike computer to read it (note to self: wash those cycling gloves!). Whenever I put in much effort I began to hack away so I took it fairly easy. I was horribly disheartened at one point to see I was going 9 mph, but understood when I reached the turnaround and was going 22. Funny that I hadn't really noticed the headwind! What would you do differently?: Train more early season outdoors and in the rain so I know what I can do in terms of speed and turns safely. Transition 2
Comments: I had a fairly long run and I just don't think there is an easy way to run with cycling shoes . . . Took off the pants and coat, put on a long sleeve tech t. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Again, as soon as I put forth effort I began to cough which led to more coughing. Thus, I took this easy too. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. Got a banana, drove back home. What limited your ability to perform faster: I knew I had no business racing. Sporadic training all March with my vacation, business trip, then a nasty cold that moved down to my chest. Still wasn't healthy and now hubby is sick so not much sleep. That being said I'm so glad I raced. It helped me remember why I love to do triathlons and the people who do them. It is so fun to watch the sheer terror in a newbies eyes before the start (which of course I try to help and reassure) turn to pride by the end of the race . . . To see three generations racing together (a 12 yo girl, her mother, and the 88 yo grandmother) . . . and to see a community come together to support the athletes. Event comments: This is the first tri of the season and they do a great job. Tons of volunteers (who are AMAZINGLY enthusiastic for an early Saturday morning), supportive fans, a nice food and hot drink selection at the end, and perfect long sleeve tech t-shirts. I'm ready to sign up for next year! Last updated: 2011-03-21 12:00 AM

Woke up to light rain at 5, fixed a bagel with pb for the road and was off by 5:15. Drove down to CVO and set up transition.
This was a real issue for me. The wave before got out of the pool late so we only had 2 1/2 minutes in the pool and had to line up at 2 min so could really only take a stroke or two.
