Swim
  • 06m
  • 275 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Happy with the swim. Felt pretty relaxed and went at my pace. Foot cramped on the first lap, but I stopped kicking at all for a few strokes and worked it out.
What would you do differently?:

Passed a few, and didn't get passed, so probably try to start a little further up to avoid standing around for quite so long.
Transition 1
  • 05m 48s
Comments:

Would have thought I had time to do my hair and nails! Pulling bike shorts on over wet swimsuit, not good. Tested blood glucose, high 300's, not good...bolused 1/2 unit. Fumbled with everything.
What would you do differently?:

Think next purchase will be tri shorts and top. Also need to set BG meter out where I don't have to hunt for it in my pack. Move faster!
Bike
  • 53m 26s
  • 13 miles
  • 14.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Not great, but OK for what I have put into bike training so far.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work out a way to drink on my bike...running pack with water bottle in the back, not workable. Helmet strap was too loose...wind was blowing it back on my head. Oh, and need to work on biking in general.
Transition 2
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Tested again, high again, bolused again. Had one test error and then dropped a couple of test strips. Retied shoes. Thirsty since I didn't drink on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Juggle the meter better. Consider testing outside the transition to get going on the run. Get water bottle for bike cage, and drink on the bike.
Run
  • 32m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Reasonably happy w/ the time considering we walked some of the uphills/into the wind, and training miles have dropped off the last few weeks.
What would you do differently?:

Drink on the bike. Get my mileage up.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to spend more time on bike & run training. Blood sugar being sky high (high/mid 300's) probably didn't help, but better than dropping low. Transistions, ugh! And hate to admit it, but probaby should do more running without my ipod. I really missed it on the run.

Event comments:

2nd tri, so not a lot to compare to, but volunteers did a great job, and I liked the bike course. Not a big fan of doing two loops on everything.
