Run
Comments: Didn't really do anything great or bad, just totally average. I would much prefer a swim but e.coli isn't worth it. I should have drank more water before the start- I was awfully thirsty and they didn't have water at the turn. What would you do differently?: Not do a duathlon :) Transition 1
Comments: I was totally disoriented going from run to bike. I dropped my helmet and struggled to get it on. Doh! What would you do differently?: I don't know, this will hopefully be my last ever duathlon. Bike
Comments: A good solid ride for me. I hammered the pace pretty hard and didn't get passed much. By the 3rd loop I was passing quite a few people. I did get chicked by the female winner in the last 1/4 mile... she was smoking fast. What would you do differently?: I forgot a water bottle, and I was drinking out of a stupid Arrowhead plastic bottle. Pretty amateur mistake. Transition 2
Comments: I'm used to T2 thank God. I hopped off the bike and the right heel was in terrible pain. I could barely run and I was concerned that I wasn't going to make it. Decided to HTFU and deal with it. Got the bike racked but I didn't have speed laces in, so I needed to untie my shoes from the last run which wasted a lot of time. What would you do differently?: Speed laces would help, for sure. Run
Comments: Heel was in serious pain. I started out and the pain just got worse as I went along. I actually had to walk the aid station both ways (on a 5K!) and was totally pissed at myself. I need to keep in mind that this was my 3rd run in two days, and I'm dealing with an achilles heel problem. Still, could not get up to a race speed and feel comfortable. I laughed when I got to the finish line and the announcer said "Here's Matt Gilmartin from Castle Rock- he runs like a swimmer!" Hahaha! What would you do differently?: Not do a duathlon again :) Post race
Warm down: PBR! and Mad Greens. Yum. Also hung with all the BT peeps- we had quite a few today. What limited your ability to perform faster: Back-to-back days of running on a bad heel, and no swim which I always rock on. I'm still making an effort to run better, as well. Event comments: Not as fun as the tri, but the WO peeps did a nice job improvising. I love this race every year, and this years expo was terrific. Last updated: 2011-03-23 12:00 AM

Up at 5, picked up Gaye @ the Evans Park and Ride, and we got to the race site just before 7. Had a quad espresso and a small coffee. Ate a power bagel, yogurt, and a V8.
Set up transition pretty quickly- no swim makes it a lot easier. Found Robyn and we ran a quick 1/2 mile to warm up. My heel was acting up already, so I was trying to get it loosened up. Calves were also really tight from the day before, so I knew this was going to be a rough one.
