Swim
Comments: I had a great swim. I felt relaxed the entire time and really did enjoy the time out there. I remember rounding the first bouy and thinking that was a first! I tried to just swim my own race and was successful at that. What would you do differently?: I should have gone out harder and I would have come out of the water higher in the rankings, but I was just trying not to freak out, so I am glad I raced smart. Transition 1
Comments: I had an issue getting my shoes on after my flying mount, but I didnt panic and just stayed calm and got it taken care of eventually. What would you do differently?: Get my shoes on quicker.... Everything else went well. Bike
Comments: I had driven the bike route prior to the race and found that the course elavation description was misleading. It doesnt look to bad on paper. In real life is is worse. Make sure you come into this race with some hill time. If you have a heavy bike, you will not enjoy this part of the course unless you have some good gearing to help out. What would you do differently?: I had a great ride. I would not change anything. Transition 2
Comments: Fast transition, I did rerack my bike which wasted a few seconds and took a little time to get my shoes on, but other than that is was a good transition. What would you do differently?: Work on a cleaner transition next time. Run
Comments: I think they cut the run short too. For me to run a 19:47 5k is crazy fast for me. I dont know if I would trust the measurement on this course. Started to feel the bike at this point. Legs where a little heavy, but they came back to life on the way up the hill. I had no interest in out sprinting a guy to the wire, as I was done when we got back on the trail to finish the run. What would you do differently?: I need to brick off the bike more to get a better feeling how to run quickly with heavy legs. Also my run fitness is not as good as it should be for a 5k. Post race
Warm down: No warm down. Just chatted with folks and made new friends at the finish line and just enjoyed watching people finish there race. I stayed for the awards that they give out and won a bottle of wine and a blue ribbon for my first tri. I was very happy and felt very blessed to have such a great day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Run fitness and not really knowing what I was doing. Event comments: This is a very low key event. It is ran very much like a trail or ultra event. No swag, small medal, no raffles, no goodie bag, but this is not a race that you would do for those things anyway. It is a great race for a well trained beginner and someone who wants to do a good fitness test at the start of the season. I might do this again next year. Last updated: 2011-03-24 12:00 AM

I got out of bed at 3:00 to shower, get some coffee and breakfast for the road. I was out the door by 3:30 and sat back to enjoy the 2 hour drive to the race. I typically have a PB&J bagel, banana and coffee for breakfast as I did today. Felt rested with 5 hours of sleep and ready to go.
I was the first to arrive at the transition to rack my bike so I had the entire area to pick from....even with that I at first picked the wrong spot closest to the bike out. At this event rack at the swim exit, because it is clsoest to the bike in and run out area of the race. If you rack at the bike out, you will have to run with your bike about 100 to 150 years to rack your bike and then that same distance to run out....not fun.
I was able to get a little jog and swim in before the race started and was very relaxed and ready to go for my first tri.
