Total Time = 1h 14m 11s
Overall Rank = 109/403
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 22/39
Pre-race routine:

had a bagel and drove to the race ~15 minutes.
Event warmup:

Did a short ride to check out the bike
Swim
  • 08m 12s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a rough swim as I never got into a rhythm. I was bumping people the whole time and was stopping to look for a path to swim. (So my sighting was great :) I was not happy with my swim while in the water--when I looked at watch I was right on pace this gave me a little boost.
What would you do differently?:

get to the front and swim hard--I felt like I put forth little effort
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

got through T1 good but had trouble mounting my bike and lost some time...this caused me to push for 30 secords to separate myself from a pack.
What would you do differently?:

need to work on my mounts--this was a slight up hill start.
Flying mounts would save time for me also
Bike
  • 44m 1s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 17.04 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good most of the ride...held back some hoping for a good run. I worked the hills but was maybe a little off on the rest of the course pushing my speed (I was a minute slower this year.)
What would you do differently?:

push the whole ride and have faith in my run
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

good transistion for me....had to put a sock on my foot due to an injury so this cost me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Need to figure this out in the off season how to knock a few more seconds off
Run
  • 19m 12s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out running as planned but when I hit the first incline on the trail my mind and body started to have some doubt.....end up walking and running the first mile.....ran the second mile back. I felt the ride in my legs on the run back but I pushed through.

I need to just run and stop thinking about things (pains and discomfort)
What would you do differently?:

my foot/sock/shoe was bothering me from my injury and was not comfortable.
Post race
Warm down:

crossed the line and smiled since it was an improvemnt over the prior year

What limited your ability to perform faster:

injury to foot
need to RUN and forget about everything else (mental)
very little training the week prior to the race

Event comments:

this was almost a five minute improvement from last year--but know I still have room for improvement (especially on the run)
