Run
Comments: First run-slow. First of all my back was hurting really bad and so was my left hamstring and glute. That is an old injury and my back has arthritis, old ruptured disc and severe disc space narrowing. Morning workout and cold makes this worse and it was cold! There-my excuse for running slow. But never having done a duathlon before, I was not sure what to expect so I kind of took it easy. And the bleeping hills! What would you do differently?: I would have prepared more, try a practice duathlon or at least running before the bike. Not sure I could have done anything else differently Transition 1
Comments: I am not trying any of the things above yet except running out of transition with bike. I lost my balance trying to put my shoes on. Had to bend over, hold the ground with one hand and change shoes with other. Had trouble getting my bike off the rack because of my back. Otherwise ok, got clipped in and off riding smoothly. What would you do differently?: Need to practice transition more. I think I need to get my speed laces looser. They are somewhat new and somewhat new shoes and I can't slide in and out as easy as my old shoes-so maybe loosen them more. Bike
Comments: Bike is my strong part, partly because I have a great bike and partly because I have ridden mountain bike for years and have pretty strong legs. I think I rode pretty well, but I am not very brave about passing people amongst traffic or with bad road conditions. So I followed multiple times at a much slower pace until I felt safe getting around. What would you do differently?: Be braver about passing people. Drink more water. Transition 2
Comments: Dismount good but once on ground could not feel feet at all! This happened last year during the tri practice when it was cold. Thought about putting toe covers on my shoes but thought since I was not swimming this would not happen again. I had trouble racking my bike again, could not lift it well, fumbling with shoes that would not go on easily, losing balance again. What would you do differently?: Put toe covers on bike shoes. Practice transition, loosen speed laces Run
Comments: Off and stumping through grass with my ankles twisting too and fro since I could not feel my feet. Took most of first lap for them to thaw out. 2nd lap better since I could feel my feet by then. The hills were hard. What would you do differently?: Maybe drinking more water on the bike or having a gel would have helped me on the hills. Put toe covers on bike shoes Post race
Warm down: walk/jog/walk.Water What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough practice, getting workouts in has been hard. I am also not a fast runner anyway but I have done better running than this. Event comments: First of all MaxTrax is totally awesome. I have participated in their races several times and they are first class, everything detail worked out, safety of utmost concern. Really work hard to make it a good experience for everyone. I really had a blast besides not being in good enough shape. This is a great motivator to keep working out and try to get better and I see things now that I need to work on.
