Run
Comments: This course starts fast and for the most part stays fast. My plan was to do a contolled pace until about mile 9-10. Then hopefully have enough left to finish strong. As I made my way out of town and began the bike trail part, I was glancing at my garmin and noticing roughly 6:30 miles. This is not a controlled pace! Since the course is so flat, I decided to roll the dice and see if I could keep it up, or at least keep it under 6:45 pace. Going into the wind heading out, I tucked in with a small group of guys for awhile. These guys looked like good runners - a few of them had no trouble holding a conversation. I decided to push the pace and break away but I was passed by them later. At the turn around (7 mi) it was slightly down hill and wind at our backs. There were 3 aid stations and I had trouble getting much down at each one. With about 3 miles to go I slowed down a lot. My form was terrible, HR high 170's, and got passed by half dozen people. This is exactly how I did not want to run this, I felt like walking but managed around 7:30 mi the rest of the way. This was my chance to break 1:30:00 because it's flat and a better strategy would have got me there. What would you do differently?: Not think I'm better than I am. finishing a race like this on fumes with 3 miles to go not the preferred method Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Pacing. Although I had a good first 10 mi, I lost too much in the last 3 Event comments: This was a well run event and thanks to all who volunteered Last updated: 2011-04-03 12:00 AM
