Swim
Comments: oh my gosh. I am totally near sighted and couldn't see a frickin thing...so I thought follow the splashing and you'll be all right. Apparently I have a mean right turn when I swim and kept veering to the right --then would rectify and over and over...spotted the green buoy and was swimming with a group of 4 or 5 other slow pokes...got to the green buoy only to discover it was the 2nd green buoy. Missed the first one. Swam back to the first one and then back and then back to shore. Second half of the swim...although still not straight by any means was smoother as far as stroke and breathing and feeling at ease. What would you do differently?: need to investigate if I can find goggles with a bit of correction so I can see where I am going and work on bilateral breathing / sighting to try and stay on a straighter course. I hope to trim this by at least 7-10 minutes. Transition 1
Comments: I think I can cut a little time here. What would you do differently?: um go faster. duh. Bike
Comments: I could improve here a little. I hope to cut 5 minutes off this time in September. What would you do differently?: since this was my first race at this distance, I was reluctant to push the pace so as not to completely die on the run. Transition 2
Comments: need to practice mounting and dismounting "on the fly". I was nervous to fall on my ass or face or both...so was very timid here. What would you do differently?: practice to be more confident and not wuss out. Run
Comments: this was slow. Only walked at the water station but this was slooooow. What would you do differently?: um run faster. I am going to work harder on bricks and speed work to get this pace more in line with under 10 minute miles for the next one. Post race
Warm down: yeah. I did absolutely nothing I was supposed to here. Just drank a beer then went and sat my ass in the truck and ate a big cheeseburger. by the time we got home - I was stiff as a board. oops. What limited your ability to perform faster: first time out. trying to get my bearings..and I'm old and slow naturally. Event comments: I was completely exhilarated after finishing and...quite exhausted. I was very proud of myself for completing the race without any major complications. I was of course not pleased when the times came out...It would have been nicer to have completed it with a better time. But I'll plan my workouts for the next one at the end of July to try and speed my butt up a bit. Last updated: 2011-04-05 12:00 AM

left the house at 5:10 and arrived right at 6. Ate a piece of pb toast/coffee/water and couldn't stomach anything else. I hadn't slept for shizzle at all and I was just stupid-nervous.
set up transition/got the wetsuit on and went to the water. I just had to get in and dispell some of the nerves. Warmed up arms and legs with dynamic stretching and hit the water. Got totally calm once I acclimated to the water and spent 1/2 hour joking with my son and husband since we had to wait for the paramedics to get to the beach...which caused a 1/2 hour delay in the race start.
