Swim
Comments: First off, I had a great swim, PR by over a minute. The time also includes a 50-60 yard run I think to T1 so actual pool time was less than 10 min. I could have probably been even faster cause since I swam faster than my seed time I was running into other swimmers and traffic at the end of the lanes. Overall I'm happy with the swim, but know I really need to focus on getting some more pool time with a stroke coach. I would like to be in the 7-8 minute/400m swim range which I know is doable. What would you do differently?: I don't know other than more practice, but at this point in my tri career, not being able to even breast stroke 50m without resting, I'm happy with the progress. Transition 1
Comments: Grabbed glasses helmet put on socks and bike shoes, ate 3 cliff blocks and jogged through T1. Mounted and was off. What would you do differently?: There is some time to be had here, maybe sockless? Bike
Comments: I nailed the bike. PR average speed! I went all out on the bike which was the plan and am real happy here. I probably lost 20-30 seconds fooling with my aerodrink bottle that came unstrapped. No-one passed me and I caught a lot of people on the bike. I drank about 20 oz Gatorade perform with soome endurolytes mixed in. What would you do differently?: I will be strapping down the aero bottle with the rubber band thingys really good next time Transition 2
Comments: Unclipped and ran to the rack, got bike racked and changed shoes, ate 3 cliff block and grabbed a water out of T2. What would you do differently?: Yanks on the running shoes, maybe skip nutrition or take it all on the bike. Run
Comments: This is where I lost it. I left T2 at 50:34, I'm thinking I can break 1:20:00. Which was not a pre-race goal. I would have been happy breaking 1:25:00. At about 1/2 mile my guts are twisting and I feel like I'm gonna puke. My concrete legs had just found their pace and things were going good. I don't know if I took too many endurolytes or it was just a result of pushing myself during the whole race. Had sips of water at 1 mile and dumped most of it on me. Mile 2 was brutal but I pushed through. The last mile I picked it up and finished as strong as I could but missed breaking the 1:20:00 mark by 17 seconds. Not my best run but I am proud that I only walked the water stations and pushed through the pain. What would you do differently?: I am going to add some long bike-run bricks to my workouts and try to get the nutrition down. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, grabbed some ice and put under my hat, packed up my stuff and talked with some other Los Alamos people. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think bike run bricks will show me the way, but my stomach issues held me back on the run. Overall I'm ecstatic about my performance in this race. Event comments: Socorro is a homecoming for me, it's where I went to college, so it's a comfortable venue. It was a real fun race. Last updated: 2011-04-05 12:00 AM

Arrived the night before, picked up packet, actually changed the pulley's on my derailleur, went to dinner and got to sleep about 10:30pm. I was concerned about the heat, and humidity and how much I sweat. I started with endurolytes the day before.
Had Protein shake, granola, and a cliff builder bar for breakfast, more endurolytes.
Got to the venue at 5:45 and got transition set up and made multiple bathroom stops with some stomach issues. I don't know if it was nerves, too many endurolytes or a combination of both.
The swim was a time trial start based on your predicted swim time I was starting 236 out of 281 numbered racers, 254 finished the race, I don't know how many started. We went off in 10-15 second intervals so I was waiting around for a while.
Warm-up consisted of stretching and walking around. No shoes on and transition closed so couldn't really jog or anything.
