Set Up Events

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 09m 44s
Overall Rank = 49/107
Age Group = Master Clydes
Age Group Rank = 3/9
Pre-race routine:

Chocolate Silk Milk lite, whole wheat thins bun with peanut butter and a 12oz gatorade for the ride.
Event warmup:

ONce at the race and after set up, I went for a 10 minute slow jog, followed by some stretching. I had 24oz of HEED right before my swim (I should have done that earlier and then do a goo gel).
Swim
  • 05m 36s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

This could have been the worst swim ever. I passed 4 people and went head on with 2 that were in the wrong lane bringing me to my feet twice. I could have easily posted a 4:40 but it is what it is.
What would you do differently?:

Change my swim time to 85 to 90 seconds.
Transition 1
  • 00m 49s
Comments:

No socks, shoes on, then run.
What would you do differently?:

no socks, shoes in clips, then run.
Bike
  • 35m 14s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 19.58 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to increase my leg strength. My HR and effort was good but I didn't feel I had the power to push harder.
What would you do differently?:

Add clip-on aero bars
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

I could not get my shoes off and almost fell over. I could not get my number belt on. Socks went on great, shoes on great (thx speed laces).
What would you do differently?:

I need to get shoes off while clipped in and leave in the pedals. I also need to grab my number belt and run with it in lieu of trying to put on in the transition. Oh, I would also find where the run start is and run out of the bike start finish (Thx Todd for telling me I was going the wrong way).
Run
  • 27m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run with a good pace.
What would you do differently?:

I should have picked up the pace earlier towards the end because I had some left in the tank crossing the line.
Post race
Warm down:

Cold water, walk and some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not knowing when to kick it in on the run, too many slow people in the pool and not enough time in the saddle prior to the race.

Event comments:

The pancake station could not have been better!! Looking forward to next year!
