Swim
Comments: My goal, with no swimming whatsoever, was to beat last years time. The only training I had done was mental training from watching videos of swim strokes. Last year: 9:49 (-1:15) Mission accomplished!! What would you do differently?: I am going to take lessons or join masters swim this offseason. I am looking forward to it!! Transition 1
Comments: Last year 1:18 (-0:15) Mission accomplished!! What would you do differently?: I might trim my wetsuit at the ankles because I am only 5'-8 and it is a large so I have material left over. Bike
Comments: I worked on my position over the winter and I believe it has paid off. I didn't work nearly as hard (I think HR avg was 165 last year and very spikey) and was faster. These are some of the worst roads I have ridden. I don't think I'll race this event next year because of them. I actually broke my arm pad off my aero bars and that made the last 5 mi. difficult to maintain a decent pace. Last year 41:07 (-0:17) Mission accomplished!! What would you do differently?: Not ride on the crappy roads LOL. If I could go do it again I think I would push harder. I would like to break 40 min on this course. Well, maybe I will be back..... Transition 2
Comments: It's T2...I just tried to be smooth. Last year :54 (-0:05) Mission accomplished!! What would you do differently?: I think just getting more races under my belt will make these faster. I keep getting more and more comfortable with them. Run
Comments: I realllllly wanted to get into the 6's but 7's are all I have in my stumpy little legs (for now). I am not giving up though!! Last year 22:20 (-0:14) Mission accomplished!! What would you do differently?: Just try and push harder. I know I have it in me. I think I just need to do more speed work in the early season. It was a good run for me and when I was done I felt really good. I remember feeling more tired last year so I feel like I'm making steady improvements. Post race
Warm down: Walked out onto the grass and sat with Caleb and Jennie. Packed up my transition area and got a Coke and a burrito. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of "quality" running. I am still working on that though and spent a good part of the winter/spring doing 6 runs a week on a strict schedule so I know I will improve. Event comments: Like I said in my report, I don't know if I will come back to this race. My bike broke because of the terrible roads. There were huge bumps that you just couldn't avoid and I am pretty bummed by that. It's been my favorite race so I will have to think about it next spring. It is a really great event though. I had the alarm set for 4:00 but, for whatever reason, when 3:00 hit I woke up and was wide awake. No biggy. I'm used to getting up early and this would give me some more time to wake up, watch some news an have some breakfast. That consisted of toast and jam and a Monster Java. Pretty good and I think I will be sticking with that as it sat well and woke me right up.
I got set up in a great spot in transition and went for a short jog out and about 1/4 mile down the trail so I could get a feel for the exits/entry to the area and practice locating my rack. I also went into the water at about 6:45 and swam a few laps across the beach area.
I had some goals in mind for this race but I kept reminding myself that I shouldn't go overboard as I have to get im some decent recovery and workouts before High Cliff in 2 weeks. I just really wanted to do better in every aspect of the race. I think I did, check it out.
