Total Time = 4h 55m 28s
Overall Rank = 918/1560
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 165/198
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and walked to the race site - ate a couple stinger bars and had a couple cups of coffee. used the john and waited until the start.
Event warmup:

not much if any
Swim
  • 38m 52s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a bad swim for me in the sense I did not get my race started well. It was one of those swims where I was apprehensive from the start and wanted to just quit and get out of teh water. I was intimidated by the crowd and it showed in my confidence. I was also not very excited about this race mentally. Not a good place to be before a race.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my motivation and confidence.
Transition 1
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

pretty good transition except i had to take time to get my gear into its bag.
What would you do differently?:

not a whole lot
Bike
  • 2h 33m 12s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.93 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike wasn't great. I pushed hard and slowed at the end. I was discouraged by all the drafting and the huge pelotons of riders flying down the road.

I did not draft and I am proud to know I legitimately earned my time.

my time may have been my best yet on a half, but I didn't really enjoy it.
What would you do differently?:

not do this race again.
Transition 2
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

tent transition - left the helmet for a volunteer after struggling to get it int he bag. that was nice
What would you do differently?:

not struggle with the helmet but just hand it to a volunteer
Run
  • 1h 37m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a bad run that did not live up to my expectations
I had GI issues that warranted a stop at a port-o-can

I was unable to pick up the pace and was really struggling to come home until the last 2 miles when I was pushing hard to finish sub-5.
What would you do differently?:

I think my lack of training showed. Perhaps I pushed a little too hard on the bike. The GI issues were strange as my nutrition was basically the same as it has been and I thought I had overcome those problems.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and sat
went to the ocean and sat in the cool water to rest my legs and feet

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of motivation and training

Event comments:

The organization and volunteers were great. The course sucked for the bike.
Glad it's gone.
