Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:40 for the drive out to Benicia. Was tough waking up on a Sunday to go drive 40 minutes to race a 10k, oh well. Ate a banana and a protein shake along the way.

Got to the race site and saw my co-workers, my company was sponsoring this race, so I had a free race entry.
Event warmup:

Stood around trying to stay warm! My boss felt bad saying "the race will start soon, you'll warm up!"

Finally they called the 10k racers to the starting line. My boss, another co-worker and I went to the starting line.

Comments:

Started out with my boss and co-worker, but they started talking about waork! Ugggg.....I refuse to talk about work outside of working hours! I ran in front of them, was not sure of pacing as I had not run a stand alone 10k race since 2007!

Stayed at comfortable pace. Hit a bunch of rollers, but the good thing was that it helped me warm up....fast! I saw I guy running in compression short, I knew he was a triathlete, so I ran up to him and sure enough, he is wearing a IM Cananada Finisher's hat! Yay, a fellow triathlete in a sea of runners! I chatted with him for a few, turns out he had also done the full Vineman as well.

Tried to keep my pace and I hear from behind, my boss say "hey we can;t let the Ironman get too far ahead of us!" I said, "i'm built for endurance not speed, so go for it!"

I kept thinking of how fortunate I was to be able to run, the night before I had finished reading the Long Run. Story of a NYC fireman who was hit by a bus and recovers to finish the NYC Marathon and IMLP in 2009!

I hit the turn around about 30 minutes or so into the race I think. The rollers coming back were a bit worse and turned off to more rollers. I passed a bunch of people ad then we met up with people doing the 5k. I passed a bunch of them too! Me passing people on the run, this does not happen! Finally I hit the straight away to the finish-line and kick it in. I hear my friend yell for me(later she said, "you were in the zone!").

I crossed the finish line and was pumped to see my time! Turns out it was a 11+ minute PR!
What would you do differently?:

This was a great race for me!
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a bottle of water and worked our booth at the race expo.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A 11+ minute PR is impressive, I'm not going to say I was limited!

Event comments:
