Swim
Comments: I still freaked out and gagged whenever I got a little lake water in my mouth, but I think I did a pretty good job of redirecting myself back to swimming again. Listened to The Believers pre-race - "WTQ" has pretty good rhythm for swim! Definitely felt I did better than Cayuga Lake! What would you do differently?: Definitely need more open water swimming practice - less gag breaks will equal better time. Transition 1
Comments: This transition area was smaller than CL so that of course made T1 time shorter, but I still think I did a decent job of focusing on the necessaries and taking off. What would you do differently?: Maybe someday I'll master the art of putting my shoes on while standing up, but meanwhile I will accept the fact that I come out of the water dizzy and will plant my arse down. Bike
Comments: I bitched and complained to myself through this whole ride - it just seemed really hard! I tend to ride my brakes on the downhills cuz I'm scared of going too fast, and it seemed like I got that burning brake smell in my nose and smelled it the whole time. My butt REALLY HURT, and the hill at the end was such torture! But as you will see in my final comments, perhaps the course really wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be.... What would you do differently?: I need to work on blowing my nose and drinking while I'm riding. Well, not so much drinking, but swallowing the water once it's in my mouth. Not sure why that seems so hard, maybe it's the head positon. I also seem to have a constant struggle with shaking the numbness out of my hands. Some have commented to me that it may be that I'm riding a mountain bike. Transition 2
Comments: I did blow my nose, but didn't dilly-dally with anything else, knowing that I could grab water while exiting transition. What would you do differently?: I think I'm pretty happy with it. Run
Comments: Ate a Stinger gel when I saw the water station coming up. Wasn't sure I needed it, but it was prob a good idea. Had decided I might need to walk the run depending on how bad the achilles felt, but by the time I got off the bike the opposite knee wasn't working right either, so it almost felt better to run. So I did both. What would you do differently?: I think with a little more focus I could have cranked it out at the end a little more. Post race
Warm down: Just walked around. BAD GIRL! SHOULD HAVE JUMPED IN THE WATER AND STRETCHED! What limited your ability to perform faster: Well, as it turns out, when I got home it was discovered that my front brakes were rubbing pretty badly the whole time, and my seat was slightly askew. If only I had INSPECTED MY BIKE PRE-RACE, I'm sure I would have had a much easier, faster and enjoyable ride, my left butt cheek would have been much happier, and my knee very well might not have been screwed up for the run. One more for the tri "live & learn list". Event comments: For such a small race, there seemed to be a lot of awesome volunteers! I was surprised and kept wondering where they all came from! Very grateful to have such a nice race so close to home! Last updated: 2011-04-09 12:00 AM
