Pre-race routine:

We stayed at my aunt's condo on East Beach and drove to the start. I got there a little later than I should have and jogged into transition from the parking area by Schlitterbahn. GOod warm up. Set up my transition with no problem and had time for everything. I was a later wave so no pressure from time.
Event warmup:

Ran from parking to transition.
Swim
  • 38m 43s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

The current was pushing a bit left to right and I found myself off course a few time and had to swim back to the buoy line. Probably cost me a minute or two, but no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Not a whole lot, pretty happy with the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Wetsuit strippers were great.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 47m 53s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.01 mile/hr
Comments:

I was undertrained on the bike and knew that coming in.
The bike felt really hard and I found myself having to pull back on the effort level to save my legs for the run. I also was not as comfortable in aero as I had not spent any time on the tri bike prior to the race.
What would you do differently?:

ride more
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

none
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 36m 25s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a tough run for me as I was getting hot and starting to fade. Basically, like Galveston last year but not as fast because of the weak bike legs.

I was slowing the last laps and really lacked the energy to pick the pace back up. I had wanted to run a 1:32-1:35 and just missed that.

What would you do differently?:

bike more to have better run legs
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training. This race was meant to be a test of early season fitness and to get me in the mindset to race again going towards IM CDA this summer. It accomplished both goals. It showed me that I need to work on my biking and maintain the other two.

Event comments:

Another good Endorfun race. The post race food was hard to find, but there was plenty of it once I did. There were reports of tacks being thrown on the bike course and I did see a lot of flats and a few bad crashes, but I also saw lots of sag and medical support so that's good.

No one can control the redneck idiots who throw tacks.
