Swim
Comments: Felt like there was more current, had trouble sticking with my breathing pattern. Usually I am able to avoid getting too close to people and just swim my own race, but this time I ended up locking arms with other swimmers at least twice, along with having to swim around several people doing backstroke. What would you do differently?: Make sure to maintain breathing pattern. Transition 1
Comments: Okay, I tend to chat in this transition, gotta just keep moving, took a couple of sport beans. Was listening to the announcer talking about the first athletes coming in from the bike, so I hustled, didn't want a repeat of last year where I was still standing around transition when the 1st guy came in on the bike, luckily this time I was passed as I approached the pro racks...so progress was made in this transition, no thanks to my swim being 3 minutes slower than last year. What would you do differently?: Not chat so much. Bike
Comments: "nice" rolling hills, enjoyed the downhill parts. Had to keep remembering Siri Lindley's to keep positive thoughts in head, which was difficult when going up hill at 5.8 miles per hour at points. Kept it positive, spinning the uphills and cranking the downhills, staying aero as much as possible. Ended up about 20 minutes faster than last year. :) What would you do differently?: ride more hills in training Transition 2
Comments: Don't remember much here, was easier to put on new five finger shoes. There was a new bike racked on the rack next to mine that was not there at any point prior, making it difficult to get to my things. I think it was a little faster than last year's split. What would you do differently?: move faster Run
Comments: Was more of a run/walk combo. This is the area where I need to focus this off season. Was a little faster than last year, not focused on run this year as I did a half aquabike less than 2 months ago and hadn't been running much for that. What would you do differently?: Run more Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate, sat down at booth. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of run training Event comments: Ended up about 20 minutes faster than last year, most of the time was made up on the bike. Just need to watch out for the speedbumps as I heard there was a crash in the Classic Distance race on Sunday involving 2 riders and 1 speedbump. Last updated: 2011-04-13 12:00 AM

Got up at 3, ate breakfast, left hotel by 4 arrived just before 4:30 (was dropped off, so no worries about parking), set up transition, was one of the first one's there, so got the primo end spot. Walked around and said hi to a few friends. Then went to pre-race talk at 6:30
After pre-race meeting, had about an hour before my wave started, so got wet with wetsuit not all the way on to start, then relaxed for a while, then got zipped up and went in again to make sure I got my head wet before the race started.
