Swim
Comments: Overall a good swim for me. They said the water was 64 but no one I takled to believed that to be true, it was definitely colder. At the beginning the shock of the temperature made it hard to breathe but after awhile I settled in nicely. I drifted to the right a bit the whole time which made it hard to find draft opportunities and also might have made the course a bit longer. Otherwise it was a good swim, I felt really comfortable and about half way I thought "I'm not really racing, lets pick it up a bit". Now that swimming isn't such a stuggle for me I could try pushing a pace right from the beginning in future races. What would you do differently?: Push pace for the whole swim, and stay on course so I can find more drafting chances. Transition 1
Comments: I expected this time to be around 3:00. This is the worst the wetsuit has ever stuck to my ankles. I ended up kneeling down for both legs to pry it off. For me, just a terrible waste of time. What would you do differently?: Get the dang wetsuit off! Bike
Comments: I feel like I really crushed this bike leg. This is the first time I've averaged over 20mph in anything other than a flat sprint. The pace was hard throughout, and I climbed pretty well, with almost no standing. After the turn around on the bluff, I really took advantage on the downhill portion and hammered it home. I may have gone a bit too fast (or maybe didn't get in enough nutrition) because I had nothing left in the legs for the run. What would you do differently?: For a stand alone bike leg, nothing. But it terms of the overall race maybe hold back just a tiny bit to help the run leg. Transition 2
Comments: This was more like it, no wasted time in transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: There was no point when I felt good during this run. Right away I had side stitches and my legs just had a dead feeling. Coming out of T2 at 1:44:00 I thought I had a real shot at breaking 2:30:00 but obviously that didn't happen. Any time I wanted to pick up the pace the legs just did not respond. With about 2 miles to go I finally accepted it wasn't going to happen and just cruised in (something I'm not too proud of). A huge blister and some nasty chaffing under my left armpit adding to the experience. What would you do differently?: Run faster. I'm not sure if it was lack of nutrition or too much spent on the bike, but this was just way too slow. Its only a few seconds faster than my typical long run pace. Post race
Warm down: Met up with Jenn, then went down to the lake and went back in (the cold water actually felt great this time around). Did a little stretching before packing up my stuff. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor showing on the run course, if it was due to nutrition I just don't know what to do because I physically can't eat with the given effort level for this distance. Maybe I should stick to sprints and long course? Event comments: Even with the disappointing run, this was by far my best Olympic distance by about 10 minutes. The newly paved 54a made for a fantastic bike course, and the volunteers were great. The post race meal remains one of the best around. I do wish they would give out t-shirts though.. (that is the whole reason to do these things right?). Last updated: 2011-04-14 12:00 AM

Slept in the dorms again this year, its so nice waking up and being able to walk to the race site. Ate some breakfast then slowly got my stuff together. Forgot my sunglasses but didn't have time to go get them.
Due to dragging my feet in the morning, I didn't have time to warm up at all. Don't think it hurt me though because even if I did a little swimming, we ended up waiting on the beach for a long time.
