Swim
Comments: I was hoping to be a little faster but seemed to zig zag a bit. Stuggled a little over the first 500 or so yards and then found a decent rhythm. What would you do differently?: Swim straighter Transition 1
Comments: No problems heading into T1. Quickly unzipped swim skin down to my waist. Long run up the steps to T1. Cycling shoes on, helmet on and out. What would you do differently?: Well, although I did not notice it until I was on the bike I had left my swimskin on and pulled down to my waist. Not the most aerodynamic thing to have it flapping along. Also, not very comfortable with the swimskin and tri shorts on. Oh well. I'm always good for at least one bonehead move Bike
Comments: Probably could have pushed harder based on looking back at watts. Was trying to stay at an even effort on the hills so I would have a good run. Thought I would likely be under 1:10 but just did not push a consistent enough pace What would you do differently?: Go a little harder. Held back too much and it turns out it didn't matter Transition 2
Comments: OK, now its time to get the swimskin off. Long run to back of transition and then back down row to the bike. Seemed to move along pretty well. Run
Comments: I knew this would be tough given the heat but WOW! Everything was marginally ok for the first 3 miles. My heart rate was high for the pace I was maintaining so I knew that eventually something would have to give. I really thought I would be under 2:30 for this race and when that went out the window I started giving myself excuses to walk. I probably walked a total of .60-.75 miles. Really dissappointed with this run but it looks like lots of people were in the same boat. What would you do differently?: This was my 5th race of the season so I was concerned that I was overtrained. I dont think that was the case as I had taken it very easy the 2 weeks prior to the race. I think it was just one of those days where I didn't have my best day and the heat/humidity had a big effect on times Post race
Warm down: My kids were volunteering at the finish line so that was cool..although I just wanted to sit down and cool off. Got a cold rag and some water and sat on a bench for about 20 minutes trying to cool down. Eventually felt good enough to have a beer and some pizza. Lots of folks struggling post race with the heat. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat/humidity and weak run. Still a couple of minutes faster than previous year but slower than goal time Event comments: Love this race venue. Chattanooga is a great city and the race is well done. Just wish it was held in the Spring or Fall. Team Magic puts on a great race. Last updated: 2011-04-14 12:00 AM
