Swim
Comments: For a first time OWS, not bad. I'm sure I actually swam about 1000yds with all of the zig-zagging that I did. I definitely need to improve on my sighting. The only good thing I can really say about my swim was that I never panicked and never stopped swimming. What would you do differently?: Practice more OWS and sighting! Transition 1
Comments: My wetsuit got caught up on my ankel because of the timing chip! I had to slow down and really pull my suit off from my foot, which took a while. What would you do differently?: Not sure...maybe take the chip off my ankel before tearing off the suit? I'll just have to keep racing to fine tune these types of things I guess. Bike
Comments: I didn't exactly push myself on this leg as hard as I could have. I started out still a little winded from the swim and trying to find my legs. I was content to sit back a little and enjoy the views of the course for the first half of the ride. I picked up my pace for the second half to get back on track. What would you do differently?: Trust more in my training that I can push myself harder. Transition 2
Comments: Good overall transition, for me at least. I paused for a couple seconds to have a gel and let my family take a picture. Could have been quicker, but I'm happy with it. What would you do differently?: More practice = better times Run
Comments: Not the most aggressive run, but solid. I decided it was better to ease into my race pace since the course starts with an up hill trail. I had to slow down a few times before passing people due to congestion on the trail and the unpaved part by the dam. What would you do differently?: Push harder through the run to close out the race. Post race
Warm down: 1 mile jog and stretching. Went out to breakfast to celebrate. What limited your ability to perform faster: First outdoor tri, first OWS, first swim with wetsuit...a lot of firsts for a race day. And, of course, a few conservative decisions on pacing. Event comments: All in all, I had a great time at this race. Being my first outdoor competition, I wasn't sure what to expect and went into with a goal of crossing the finish line...and under 1:40 total time wouldn't hurt either :) This gives me a good baseline for future races and plenty of things to work on. Woke up at 3:30, couldn't sleep anymore. Enjoyed some peanut butter and jelly waffles and a glass of water. Double-checked my bag. Drove to the course.
10 minute warmup run, about 1mile. 100m swim in wetsuit
