Pre-race routine:

Parked the car. Got out and used my foam roller. Went to use the porta-potties. Lucky for me I carry baby wipes with me on race day. Finished up and then left to walk to the Broad and Pattison subway station. Used a Triggerpoint ball on my back, hamstrings and glutes during the subway ride to Olney. Got off the subway and made my way down to the playing fields behind Girls High. You can call me Squatting Bear because that is what I did in the woods behind the school - aah! so refreshing! Started to walk back up to Broad - Mad Chaos!!! Could not move ANYWHERE. Made my way down the street to wear the gear buses were parked and just barely got everything loaded up. I heard the start go off. I walked down a street that runs parallel with Broad until I turned onto Fisher Ave where the start line and timing mat is - I made a left onto Broad and immediately stepped into the Orange Coral!!!! Perfect timing!!! I had avoided being pushed and shoved in the Orange Coral until you reached the start line. I need to keep this in mind for next year.
Event warmup:

No warmup - and I was pissed at myself. I always end up taking a local train from the ballparks instead of the express. Like I mentioned earlier I just barely made it in time to cross the starting line with the Orange Coral...

Comments:

I started off half decent and on pace for where I wanted to finish; but I just completely and utterly blew up around Mile 6 and or 7. My legs were shot. I don't know if the addition of my low carb diet has anything to do with this. I know once my triathlons start in the next two months my dieting is pretty much done until October/November...Really dissapointed in my time... similar to last year. figured i would be better with all the core strengthening I have been doing and weight I have lost.
What would you do differently?:

Give me some time to figure this one out...lose more weight, increase training volume and distance...
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed my food, grabbed my gear, put on my FiveFingers and sat on the ground and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

higher temperatures and no shade on the course...

Event comments:

Please, please, please do something different at the beginning and end of the race. too damn crowded at the beginning. Seriously crowded. Then again at the end - either move the water inside the finish area - away from the Finish Line or hand out the water immediately upon finishing the race. Everyone gets jammed together. Other than that - terrific race, that was pretty well organized.
