Pre-race routine:

Had a nice greek dinner on Saturday evening, rice pilaf w/ chicken, pita w/ hummus and stuffed grape leaves. Did not get a chance to go to sleep early because I was done with wife and kids and we were on the Wildwood Boardwalk until almost 11PM. Woke up at 5AM and jumped into a hot shower just to loosen my muscles up. Got dressed, racked the bikes on the car and started out to Stone Harbor, from Ocean City at 5:30AM. Arrived in Stone Harbor, parked and walked over to the yacht club by around 6:15. Chose a rack in transition about halfway around. Not eating anything before my workouts or races. I took some 5 Hour Energy Drink at about 7Am and then a Hammer Gel 5 minutes before the race.
Event warmup:

After setting up my cousin Pete and I took the bikes out for a quick 15 minute warmup. One loop of the bike course with some 15-20 second pickups. Next we grabbed our sneaks and went for a 1 mile run. We got back to transition at 7AM. Put on our wetsuits and headed down to the lagoon for a 5 or 10 minute warmup. The water was soooo nice. Got in a couple of race pace strokes and then headed back to the docks for the pre-race meeting.

I was in Wave 2 (Clydes & 35-39) right after the Elites. I lined up far left along the 2nd row. This way if things got dirty then I could swing left more and swim around a lot of the mosh pit. Worked pretty good because the first 100 yards was like being in a washing machine. After the first 100 yards I was able to sight and find some separation amongst everyone. The last 250 yards or so was pretty uneventful - I got into a half decent rhythm, didn't expend too much energy and didn't even need to kick to much or hard - the next thing you know is that I'm back at the dock climbing up the ladder.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - by far one of my best swims ever.

Got my feet into my shoes and immediately got up to about 21 mph heading South on the course. A pretty tough headwind didn't allow me to get too much faster than 21 or 22 mph so I made sure to continue with a decent cadence until I reached the 1st turn - once I got to the turn I was now riding with a tailwind - i immediately shifted into my big wheel and started going to town on my 12 and 14 wheel on my cassette. For nearly each of the three laps heading North I had to have averaged somewhere in the ballpark of 24.5 to 26.5 mph. One person passed me - Adam Webber when I was just getting ready for the turn at the beginning of my last lap. I was around 24 mph and he completely blew by me and went down 89th Street to start his run. Holy crap! I was very pleased with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - terrific training session to get me prepared for next weekend and NJ State! Didn't push too hard and was comfortable the entire ride. On second thought I think I drank too much Perpeteum on the bike. I was going for 250 calories and about 24 oz of water - next Saturday I'm going with about 8-12 oz of fluid - that's it. Felt like I was going to hurl for the first 2.5 miles of the run.

Two things: 1.) I'm happy I felt so sick - I didn't feel the need to push myself in what I considered part of my taper for next Saturday and NJ State - I didn't get hurt.

2.) I thought I was going to spew. Out of T2 i was holding a 7:30 minute pace for about the 1st 1/2 mile or so and I had to slow to a crawl because I thought I was going to vomit. Between my stomach and the sun just beating down on my fat ass I couldn't push myself until it was too late.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink so much on the bike. This will likely be around a 27 minute 5K my next race. I won't make the same mistake twice.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked over to the lagoon and dove in. Floated around for about 15 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Finished a little more than 1/10th of 1 second away from finishing in 3rd place for the Clydesdale division!!! Closest I have ever been to placing. Only the sick stomach during the run and the fact that my "A" race is NEXT weekend - not today. 6:27 minutes faster than the last time I completed this race. Nice.
