Run
Comments: Well, my pride is intact. I thought I would have to have all the luck in the world on my side to pull a sub-8 min/mile pace. I've been injured on and off now for about 6 months, nursing first a hamstring tear, then bursitis of the knee, then another hamstring pull (a minor one, but still enough to know I should take it easy on my running). My interval training has felt so hard these past few weeks, and I wasn't feeling very confident at all in my chances of doing "well" at this race. But surprise, surprise, I pulled through, pride intact! Gotta give credit to the (probably in her mid 40s) runner ahead of me. I saw her shirt, which matched my neon green one, and I just latched onto her. She was running my pace at the start and I began slipping back after mile 2. So I told myself, "Keep up with her!" I just kept her in my sight and finished well below my goal time of 31:00. I walked up to her afterwards and said, "I know you didn't do this for me, but I just wanted to thank you for running so hard. I just spent the whole race keeping up with you." :) What would you do differently?: Not get injured in the first place? ;) Post race
Warm down: Stretched and walked. Waited for my two friends to finish who I'd convinced to try a 4 mile run. They both did great! What limited your ability to perform faster: Being injured and subsequently not being able to train properly with intervals. Event comments: Great race. It's your standard 4 mile run through Central Park, though there was an added flavor of compassion and camaraderie to this one because of the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear accident. The post-race events included a taiko drumming group and awards. Your usual lame bagels and apples for the runners, always leaves something to be desired, but that's why everyone heads over to Isabella's for brunch afterwards anyway. :) Last updated: 2011-04-19 12:00 AM

Took my Advair inhaler once, then my fast acting inhaler twice. WTF. Bad allergies maybe? It apparently didn't help--was definitely feeling constricted halfway through the race and was phlegmy and coughing. Ugh.
Jogged to the baggage claim area, super slow, which was about .75 miles and did some light active stretching of the hammies and hips.
