Overall Rank = 295/620
Age Group = Clydes Under 40
Age Group Rank = 13/39
Pre-race routine:

Saturday = rest day = yardwork... Sunday = race day. Woke up at 5am, ate two pieces of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and 1/2 banana 4oz OJ. Got to race at 6am, plenty of time to get chip, set up transition area.
Event warmup:

Two visits to porta potty. Waited long time before swim (~2 hours after first swimmer).
Swim
  • 11m 19s
  • 440 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

passed a few people, felt good
What would you do differently?:

work on swimming endurance so I can make it the whole way with freestyle... did pass people with breaststroke while they were freestyling (not singing).
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

not shown as a time on the website... must be included in the bike...
What would you do differently?:

learn some of the fancy techniques... I have road bike shoes so they aren't that easy to get on/off compared to tri shoes. Maybe train my feet to be able to get by without socks. Practice transitions.
Bike
  • 56m 5s
  • 14 miles
  • 14.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Long run around track from T1 area (bike exit on exact opposite side of track from transition area). Took a gel while running from T1 to bike exit. Passed a bunch of people (especially on climbs). Not passed once. Felt good for whole ride.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my water bottle for the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Got one foot out before bike dismount... not enough time to get second one out.
What would you do differently?:

again... learn transitions... practice.
Run
  • 26m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good. One gel about 1 mile in from aid station (and water). Once legs felt normal again, I felt pretty good on the run. My running pace has increased from all of this cross-training and learning how to run correctly (just started using Newton trainers). Had enough in the tank to take off for last 200 yards.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, felt pretty good. With more training, I feel that I'll get faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Had to stand still right after crossing finish line so that they could get the timing chip off. After that, got my pint glass, bottled water and pizza. Walked around a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just training. I feel that swim time will improve once I can maintain a freestyle stroke for the whole time.

Event comments:

Great first race for anyone wanting to tri. This was my first tri and I'll be sure to race again next year to see how much I improve over the year.
