Pre-race routine:

Woke up and ate toast and my Latte. Just looking forward to first race of the year as I plan to race A LOT this year since last year was pretty much focused on Kona.
Event warmup:

The usual, short run and then went for a short warmup swim.

Got a good start and just swam well. I was surprised to still be 8th in the open division. Swimming has come a long way but with a short swim the fish didn't really have a chance to get way out in front of me.

I'm guessing on T1 time because timining screwed up and included T1 with my bike. Long run from water to bike and I was a little slow in transition so am guessing based on others times.

Guessing on bike but I was in a group of about 4 guys that kept going back and forth the entire ride. The top 2 guys were out front and we knew we wouldn't catch them. Really happy to hang with all the top guys on this ride. I haven't really worked on speed since Kona so it's purely my base that allows me to go fast.

Even Terranova was surprised I hung with him on the bike. Not bad for an old guy. :-)

Got out of shoes and off bike as usual. Racked my bike in the wrong spot and had to go over a couple spots to get running shoes and race belt. Sorry Ryan for putting my bike in your spot. :-)

Again,since I haven't worked speed I was happy with this. I passed Ben early and then passed Ashton but he passed me again later on. I tried to stay with him but once he got 20 yards ahead of me I knew I would be able to hang with him.

Event comments:

Overall a good short sprint for me since I haven't worked on speed since Kona. I'll race again next weekend and we'll see how it goes.
