Pre-race routine:

Up at 6:30. PB&J on a bagel, banana, coffee. Drank a half bottle of EFS the hour before the race. Left the house @ 8:20, got to the race site @ 8:30 ish. Plenty of time to set up.
Event warmup:

Took a swim for a few minutes.
Swim

  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt good in the water, but it was choppy and I wanted to enjoy and not kill myself. Cold Water. Raining. There definitely was a current, and it was windy. I thought I was swimming well, I felt good, but I wasn't pushing this swim hard enough. I found out that other racers had longer than expected swim times. Water got pretty choppy.
What would you do differently?:

I could have swam harder.
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

I still put my shoes on in T1. I think I should work on this for shorter races. But I still blow past people in the first 1/2 mile of the bike that are still trying to get their shoes on.
I felt lost here. Haven't done this in a while, and hadn't really thought about it going into the race. Need to practice this.

Comments:

Rainy, Windy, Ride. I really didn't push this at all for the 1st lap. I didn't really feel warm. My arms starting getting a little cold on the 2nd lap. The rain didn't bother me, but I just didn't have it in me to push through the wind. Dissapointed with this part of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I can race harder, but it wasn't worth it considering the conditions.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Still not all that good. I got passed by too many people here.
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 44m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

PR for this distance. Rain pretty much stopped when I was running. I was a little shocked at some of my paces. The loops included some nice muddy sections through the trees on a trail and finished running in the grass.
What would you do differently?:

Keep on training.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for Lisa for just a few minutes and cheered her on. Changed clothes, got some food, and hung out in the FeXY tent until I got to see Lisa accept her 1st place Age Group Award.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain, mental preparation.

Event comments:

Great early season race. My head wasn't all in it with the bad weather. Great for getting rid of the cobwebs and getting my head, body, and gear ready for a big race season.
