Swim
Comments: Pretty good swim. Lined up way to the inside with one other guy as everyone seemed to want to stay in shallower water, but I thought the best line was out there. Minimal contact, got tangled up a couple times in the first hundred yards or so, but was clear by the first turn. Had a group ahead and was on some feet for a bit, but then I went around him. Tried to bridge up, but wasn't making any progress so just did my own thing. This is a very easy course to navigate and the turns come quickly. Just hit the gas and go! What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty clean. Wetsuit was stuck over my timing chip briefly but didn't take too much extra time to get it off. What would you do differently?: Felt smooth and relaxed. 10/274 overall. Bike
Comments: Got going pretty well. The first few miles there was some other riders around, but then it thinned out. There was a duathlon going on at the same time and I found myself mixed up with a few of those riders. I think I did a decent job considering the conditions and that I've been focused on flatter/pedal to the metal types of rides for Eagleman. What would you do differently?: Spin the hills a bit more. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty quick and painless. The run into T2 had a section of gravel that was crappy to run over barefooted. I was just hoping there wasn't going to be any real sharp rocks there. 18/274 overall. What would you do differently?: Nada. Run
Comments: Looks like 2 guys who finished way down the standings only did 1 loop, so I'm taking them out of the standings. Got down the big hill and went to work on the main road section. Focused on keeping my turnover high and pushing the pace. Passed a few guys on the first loop. Their was more traffic on the second loop (people starting the run) so I did my best to move up from group to group. Came up on a guy towards the end of the road section and he looked to be around my age. He glanced back and saw me and asked my age and what race I was in. We were in different age groups and he seemed relieved that was the case. I pushed passed him and hit the hill hard. He tried to sprint by me in the chute but I held him off at the line - we had the same overall time. What would you do differently?: Nada, one of my better runs in a triathlon. I like the idea of a two loop course on a 5k. Things go by very quickly. I'd like to know if this course is legit. Post race
Warm down: Food and beverage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much today. I've been focusing on long course for now so no track work or anything like that. Event comments: It's a good race. Well organized in a very nice location. I'd recommend it, although the price is a bit much. Last updated: 2011-04-22 12:00 AM

Up at 4. Had the usual breakfast and was out the door by 4:30. Got to the race site very early - one of the first there, but the area was unknown to me and I didn't have a clue where to go on a foggy/misty morning in the middle of rural-ish Carroll County.
Short jog and a quick swim.
