Pre-race routine:

This is my second race. Still finding out my routine.
Event warmup:

Short swim in the lake, trying to get used to the cold water
Swim
  • 00m
  • 750 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

Had great difficulty with my breathing and stroke. First swim in a wetsuit. Goggles leaked all the way around the course.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practise open water swim in wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Wetsuit came off easier than I thought it would. Forgot to take goggles and cap off and draw into sleeve of suit. No biggie
What would you do differently?:

Not much really. This T went pretty smoothly.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 20 kms
  • 0.00 km/hr
Comments:

I was in the wrong gear while climbing a hill at around 3km. As I attempted to change gears I crashed. It took about 25 minutes to straighten out my front wheel alignment, fix a bent front derailer and reinstall chain twice. Then walk off the pain in my right ankle, and left knee. After getting going again I actually had a great ride but was too far behind to catch anyone.
What would you do differently?:

Try not to crash and more hill training.
Transition 2
  • 15m
Comments:

Very slow transition. Race organizers were ready to administer first aid and were there at the bike finish. Took a while to clean up my knee and ankle. Rest of transition was ok.
What would you do differently?:

DON'T CRASH. Then you wont need first aid = faster transition.
Run
  • 00m
  • 5 kms
  •  min/km
Comments:

I felt I had a good run, for me. Greater speed on the run is a training goal. But overall the ankle and knee injuries from the bike crash did'nt harm me too much. Just enjoyed the scenery and getting smoked by the Olympic course frontrunners. When I grow up I want to run like them...
What would you do differently?:

Train smarter to run faster.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of comfort in a wetsuit and open water swim. Using new cleats and peddles without practising with them first. Not enough hill training on the bike.

Event comments:

This was a very well organized race. Nice, friendly and encouraging volunteers. Would have been a great race for me had I not had an accident on the bike. Looking forward to doing it again next year.
