Swim
Comments: The swim went better than I thought. i was a little nervous at the start since this was my first race and open water swim. i was in the first wave and just hung out on the outside and back of the pack. my navigation was pretty good and there was another athlete swimming at my pace. so we pretty much paced each other. There was one time i thought i need to be left of a buoy, but i was actually ok on the left. I stopped and asked a lifeguard but didn't get much help for her. other than that my swim was better than i expected. What would you do differently?: stay to the inside of the course next time. Transition 1
Comments: there was a about a .25 mile jog from the water to the transition area, but that time was included in the swim interval. i actually wasn't that tired entering the transition area. the last few mini sprints with short swims actually made me tired because i pushed it hard. i paced myself well in the swim. What would you do differently?: Get some biike shoes and work on just being faster in general. Bike
Comments: i thought the bike was fun! it was fun coming back down and being able to rest for the next climb. What would you do differently?: get bike shoes. push harder on the climb. I paced myself pretty well, so i know i could have went harder if needed. Transition 2
Comments: no bike shoes, so i just racked the bike and took off. Run
Comments: i ran out of gas at about mile 2. it was a struggle for the last 4 miles. i didn't train a lot for the run and it showed. the run was very painful for me. What would you do differently?: this is definitely my weakest event. I need to really work on my form and just run more before the next race Post race
Warm down: not much of a warm down. i was light headed and just sat on the hillside. What limited your ability to perform faster: the run. Event comments: good race. the event staff was very helpful with any questions i had (this was my first race). Last updated: 2011-04-25 12:00 AM

I ate oatmeal and a banana for breakfast. i got to the race 1.5 hours early and setup my transition. I ate a Powerbar about 45 minutes before the start.
i had a really good stretch along the Riverwalk. I didn't jog or bike prior to the race.
