Pre-race routine:

Ate normal breakfast, brought a fibre 1 bar for just before. Set up in the transition area outside. Went inside, got body marked and chipped. went to the "safety meeting" and then on in to the line to get into the pool
Event warmup:

I really didn't. Just standing in line to get in the pool a little bit of stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 16s
  • 350 yards
  • 02m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

I like the idea of this kind of swim... Now that I know how it works, I'll be able to do better next time?
What would you do differently?:

Stop thinking so hard - find a distraction.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

It was 42 degrees OUT so I put on leggings (took a bit) and the extra layers.
They did not separate out transition times. I think this went in with the bike time on the results? Not sure. Definitely couldn't have been part of the swim time.
What would you do differently?:

I don't think I could have done anything differently, because I don't usually ride at all when it's that cold so I definitely needed the layers.
Bike
  • 41m 9s
  • 10.8 miles
  • 15.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Because of the swim start - you're pretty much out there all by yourself. Except when getting lapped by the "elite" athletes who come flying by you with their disc wheels who were in the heat behind you. I think in the normal races having others around you makes you push harder.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder, tried to motivate myself more.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I can guess that the time was around 2 minutes because of the difference between my garmin and what they posted.
I started to put my left bike shoe back on instead of my other sneaker. Luckily I had Ironman husband "cheering me" from the fence.
What would you do differently?:

Take my leggings off, I didn't need them (and not put on the bike shoe again).
Run
  • 54m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 17m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Well - I think I would've run the whole way, but finding out we'd turned when we shouldn't have and had to go all that way back took the wind out of my sail. It was cool that Luna Chix Rachel came back and ran me in the last 1/4 mile or so. I probably would've walked some of that with out her being there...
What would you do differently?:

Drive the run course ahead of time, bring the map AND program it into my garmin.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, drink a water, have an orange piece. Walk and talk for a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience, lack of knowledge of the course.

Event comments:

Hard to answer about on time because of the way the swim started. Might try again next year as long as weather is good, now that I know what it's like.

I did keep going, with some slight pauses at the walls, but still had some "head issues" and back stroked part of length 11 ( I think).
Suit: tri suit
Course: We got in the shallow end, had to hit each wall, had to cross under the lap buoy line at each deep end. Got out at the shallow end via the ladder at the other side of the pool, out the door directly into the transition area.

Ok - except the girl who I was running "with" who said she'd done it a 1/2 dozen times before - and I ended up actually doing 4.35 miles because we took a turn that we shouldn't have. Some idiot changed the direction of the sign after mile 2. Since we were supposed to go straight, there was not painting on the road. Since there also wasn't any markings at the previous turn (but there was a dead end so we knew we needed to turn), I went with her. When we started up the hill, and she said "I don't remember this hill being here last year. Oh well, he said they changed the course" I should have spoke up and said "He said they changed the path through the woods..." ARGH!!!
Course: Would have been just about all straight if we hadn't made the wrong turn. Had to cross a major road. First crossing was not helped. Last one, there was someone stopping traffic. Just a quick section through the woods (on path) twice, otherwise, all suburbs, quiet steers
