Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45, breakfast....wake my daughter and her BFF cause they're volunteering the run course.....head to the site drinking coffee
Event warmup:

Not a lot of time for this.....see the two teenagers were slow to roust from bed so I got to the race site in time to be body marked, wait for the bathroom, use my inhaler and walk to the start ramp.
Swim
  • 09m 11s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 18s / 100 meters
Comments:

I am not the fastest or best swimmer.....I am usually pretty uptight about the swim. For some reason, I was not at all uptight about todays swim. 400 meters, no big deal.....Course the river is low and the current was nonexistant so I had nothing to make me anxious.
I got in a few minutes before my wave and got used to the water just skulling and treading....She blew the horn and off we went. I did pretty well keeping up with the pack, had some breathing issues so I did a few side strokes to settle the breathing and kept going.
No problems sighting, did get a bit tangled in the turn bouy then kept going. About half way back I had to side stroke again for my breathing but kept on swimming. Finished strong and ran into the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, this was an excellent swim for me to remain with my wave and not be overtaken by a wave or more behind me!
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Run up the stairs hen to the far end of transition. Jen removed my strap and put it on Susan
What would you do differently?:

Watching the transitions of others was rather amusing.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 44s
  • 18.8 miles
  • 17.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Susan was the biker, 1:03:44. This is a tough course and she rode it faster than I have ever done it.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

Susan got in and I took the chip off her, put it on Jen
What would you do differently?:

Watching T2 was almost as much fun as T1
Run
  • 44m 29s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Jen did run walk intervals for safety sake (we should have been named team 3 1/3 athletes cause she is pregnant)
Post race
Warm down:

Tavern BBQ!!!

Event comments:

I had fun doing a relay with friends. I think in retrospect I might have been able to do the whole day, but I know my competitive nature would have put my legs in danger on the run.
9 months of PT was more than enough for me.
