Swim
Comments: This wasn't too bad, considering I've maybe swam 4 or 5 times since Galveston in April. What would you do differently?: Get in the pool more and practice Transition 1
Comments: This was pretty good for me overall, but I've really got to try biking with no socks, as I'm sure that added 20 to 30 seconds just fooling around with that. Putting socks on wet feet just doesn't work very well. Also, I almost busted my ass jumping on the bike - one of the rubber bands holding my shoes up busted and the heel of the shoe hit the ground when I started to peddle the other shoe and almost catapulted me off the bike. Luckily I recovered and got going. That would have been a bit embarrassing. What would you do differently?: Train barefoot for the sprint distance and beyond. Bike
Comments: This felt really good for me, and I liked the course much better this year. Going through the neighborhood last year really killed a lot of momentum. The multiple U-turns kinda stink, but I don't think there was much more they could do here. What would you do differently?: Again, get more time on the bike - going on a group ride once a week may not cut it to really see some improvements. Transition 2
Comments: Came into transition a little flustered for some reason, maybe due to the guy in front of me almost walking and me not being able to get around him (all the way to my rack). Anyway, once I got there, I seemed to lose track of what I was doing and kinda zoned out for about 10 seconds - just moving around and doing things with no real purpose or logic. What would you do differently?: Practice and stay focused. Run
Comments: This was probably my largest improvement to date, as this was my weakest area a year ago. I'm pleased with dropping my pace almost 2 minutes per mile and I felt good most of the run. Other than doing more than I did to prepare for this, which was minimal (2 runs a week at best), I'm not sure I expected anything better. What would you do differently?: Run more and prepare, got lazy after the half-Ironman in Galveston earlier this year. Post race
Warm down: Just hung out with the family and NTM for a while, got some breakfast and cold liquids in me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of real training. Event comments: Love this race - will do it every year! One of the few locations where I'm guaranteed to have some race support from the family. Last updated: 2011-04-27 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5, had a couple granola bars, and loaded up the bike/bag into the truck for the long 5 minute drive to the race site. I love this race - probably the only site where I can wake up at 5 and be at the race site at 5:45. Very relaxed atmosphere - just talked with a few NTM members and met bradleyd3, a fellow BT'er.
Swam about 150 meters and stretched a little
