Swim
Comments: I just don't have the speed to out run a 1.5mph current! Makes this course tough for me, when I can do the distance& even longer. Despite the time, I feel like I did better w staying on course this year v last year. Just felt like a treadmill w no forward progress on that second leg& constantly zig raging to stay on course for the third leg. First lap was the same, but not nearly so much of a struggle as the second lap! What would you do differently?: Swim more than a dozen times training for the race. Get in a few longer swims. Not do a half marathon the day before. REGISTER AHEAD OF TIME. Been happening to me my whole life, was just a matter of time before this happened it a race. Based on my first name someone assumed I was a GUY and put me in the m 30-34 age group rather than the F 30-34 age group. Post race
Warm down: Almost cried I hurt so bad. Just under trained& sore. Mostly it was just panic. After I ate& warmed up again I realized it was even all over soreness. What limited your ability to perform faster: Half marathon the day before, training was too little too late for this. Adequate for Tris, but not longer stuff like this. Event comments: The race director is great& changed a lot this year to make it better. More buoys for sighting, more pre race info as to current & water temp. He's doing what he can, I think I just don't swim fast enough to outrun the current here. Or I am, but just barely. And the race is frustrating and long and mentally hard. Physcially ok since I've always finished and made the cut offs. Last updated: 2011-04-27 12:00 AM

Bananas& coffee. W the later start I had actual breakfast too a few hrs earlier.
If I got into the water for warm up, i'm not sure I would have been able to talk myself back into the water again for the race! I had to swim head up w my face out of the water for a bit as it was.
