Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 5/9
Pre-race routine:

Got to the event and got everything set-up. Nice low key event, a bit cool while getting everything ready
Event warmup:

Really did do anything, probably should have done at least something but didn't.
Swim
  • 28m
  • 1500 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Even with a longer swim it went well. Need to practice more often with the wet suit, shoulders seem to get tired a bit sooner then swimming with out the wet suit.

Need to work on my sighting, went way wide at the first buoy, so it made a long swim a bit longer.

Overall, stayed pretty calm and relaxed throughout the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Practice sighting a bit more and maybe do more swims wearing the wetsuit.

Forgot to start my watch at the beginning of the swim, so the swim leg time is approximate. That was about the time on the clock when I got to transition.
Transition 1
  • 03m 35s
Comments:

Need to practice these to get a bit faster, easy time to make up right here.
Bike
  • 54m 52s
  • 13.86 miles
  • 15.16 mile/hr
Comments:

WOW, that was hilly, well as compared to the central valley. The steep hill at mile 8 was intense, glad I had been doing the trainer over the winter or I may have needed to stop and rest. The rest of the hills weren't as bad, much more rolling. Got up to 43 mph on the hill that was a pain to climb, new max speed.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

If it really was :35, then that was pretty good. I had the bike shoes off coming into transition which helped.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 39m 58s
  • 4 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run course. The trail was great to run on, the hills weren't too bad. Passed by only 2 people on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on running while breathing hard. Once I start breathing hard I start to feel like I need to walk to catch my breath.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched right away, started to get a very tight cramp in my hamstring coming into the finish. Walked a short bit. Talked with the other racers.

Event comments:

Nice race, it was a lot of fun. The swim was nice, would have been a bit cool to do with out a wet suit. The bike was fun and challenging, coming down the killer hill that was a pain to climb was fun. The run was great, nice hiking trail through the forest. Aid stations were kind of sparse, since it was kind of cool it really wasn't an issue, but if it had been hotter it would have been hard on the run.
