Swim
Comments: Figure in 15 seconds to get out the door to the timing mat. My best 600 while training came in at exactly 10:00. I was in a lane with 2 other people, one said his 600 time was 10:06, I had estimated 10:15, and the other guy said 10:25. All three of us kept up with each other, I felt that I was swimming faster than I had in training for sure, I felt tired but I just decided it was a race and I'm going to push myself. It didn't appear to affect my bike or swim, so carry on I guess? What would you do differently?: Just keep training, every other swim this season will be longer. I'm happy with that swim time and feel that additional training would be better spent with my bike and run. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty slow compared to age group, top in my AG was 34 seconds, I was 24 out of 42. I sat down, put on socks, had a drink and a couple clif blocks. I'm sure I can go faster, probably skip the socks now that it's warming up. I really don't mind the slow T1 to catch my breath before starting the bike. What would you do differently?: No socks, consider tri bike shoes and learn to get into them while riding. Bike
Comments: I'm slow on the bike, what can I say? I'm working on it, I know it's a weakness and I hope to improve this summer. Hills kill me, I got passed probably a dozen times, mostly on hills. What would you do differently?: Train harder, maybe some spin classes and get out with the weekly riding club. Transition 2
Comments: Decent, still slow compared to rest of field. What would you do differently?: Tri bike shoes and learn to remove feet before transition. Get better at taking my nutrition/liquids with me out of the transition. Run
Comments: I'm a slow runner too. Funny thing, my pace of 9:00 was about the pace I would run 5-6 miles at when fresh. 3 miles I might do 8:45ish. No water at the turn for the run, I was disapointed by that. What would you do differently?: Pay attention to where the water stations are before the race. Drink more at the transition and first part of the run if possible. Train harder. 10k coming up in two weeks, then Oly distance in 4 so I'd better get at it! Post race
Warm down: Drank water and gatorade. Walked around. Left the race, signed papers putting an offer in on a house, took my 4 year old to a birthday party, came home and drank Summit Maibock and sat in the hot tub. What limited your ability to perform faster: Insufficient training, lack of experience. Event comments: Happy with my first tri, I feel confident that I know where to improve and how to improve, it will only get better. Last updated: 2011-04-29 12:00 AM
