Pre-race routine:

O.K. This is only a simple little 5K but I'm posting it on my race list anyway since I don't have special blog or anything like that (Thank you BT for keeping my records).
Woke up at 5:30, called weather line to make sure race was still on, Rained most of the night and was still raining in parts until 6:00. Took wake up shower, ate 1/2 a banana and headed out. Only about a 20 minute drive.
Event warmup:

Stretched, jogged about 1/2 mile. Race started 30 minutes late so had to wait a while. This was the first year of chip timing for this event, maybe that caused some delays.

Comments:

Last year I ran 21:10 so was hoping for something similar. The course was slightly different this year (not sure if there was more uphill or not). Last year I was at 13:30 at the two mile marker this year I was at 13:53. Looks like this year I had a better 3rd mile split.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I didn't really prepare for this distance.

Warm down:

Chugged down some chocolate milk and ate 1/2 a banana. i then cheered on my co-workers as they came in. Then waited for the Womens race and cheered them on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training specific to this distance.

Event comments:

This is part of the Kansas City Corporate Challenge competition. Probably one of the most competitive 5K's in the area. Mens winner ran 15:34, I averaged 6:52 miles but still was 25th in AG.

Course: Downhill to start, then up a small climb at about the 1/2 mile mark, flattens out then a slight gradual climb at about mile 0.8 for the next mile or so. Flat and some slight downgrades to about mile 2.6 then all uphill from there. Difficult climb at the end of a race.
