Comments:

This course was a little more challenging than my last race with the varying terrains and it was hard to gauge how much distance I had gone. I really made an effort to push myself as hard as I could go without tiring out too soon. In my last race I really took it easy and was cautious and after getting a better idea of what I could do I felt more comfortable pushing myself harder this time. Throughout the race it was a challenge to hold myself at a steady pace and not go too fast but not waste time going slower than I needed to.

I had a cramp in my stomach for some reason the entire race, I don't know what causes that. I also was at the edge of being too winded a good portion of the race. For the last mile/mile and a half I really had to work hard to get enough breath and not start gasping.

I was able to reserve enough energy though so that when I hit what I thought was the last mile I was able to speed up a little more and was passing people left and right who had gone out too fast at the beginning and we're struggling.

I'm really happy with the time and pace I achieved in this race. This is a PR for me and was pretty much right on what I was aiming for.
What would you do differently?:

I might skip the Gatorade Prime 01, or at least do some more practicing with it first. I wonder if that's what caused the stomach cramp I had for the entire race.

I should have taken some Advil and fish oil after the race for anti-inflamation. My legs are pretty sore the next day.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked a good bit to work the tightness out of my legs. I drank a lot of water/gatorade. I should have done some stretching but didn't.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Perhaps the cramp in my stomach. I was having trouble breathing and that forced me to try to keep my pace slower so that I could breathe.

Event comments:

This was a great race! Lot's of people and a really positive, fun, exciting vibe. Lot's of booths set up with food and wine afterward. I improved my time by about 4 mins since my last race. Overall a really positive experience!

Course: The race started and ended on the Southern Maine Community College campus. It went along the water to the Bug Light lighthouse park and then back. It was a nice, scenic course. There were some surprises though. As we got to the park we went from the road to a walking path that was fairly narrow in places. Then turning around from the park we ran up a set of steps and then on to the grass for a bit. We went back to the road and then once we got the the SMCC campus we were back on another narrow pathway that made it difficult to pass people. Finally the finish line was up a small grassy hill. So there were a few challenges in the terrain but the bulk of the course was very flat.
