Swim
Comments: "Good" means compared to my abilities not compared to a good swimmer. Last year was such a disaster I am just happy I didn't hypervenilate or have to stop to catch a breath. I still need to work on navigation and not stopping when I get too close to someone. What would you do differently?: It's just practice. Now that I can actually swim, I need to figure out how to get around people. Transition 1
Comments: Had to sit down to get the wetsuit off. Transition to mount bike was up hill in the hay. I didn't want to get hay caught in my tire, so I was pretty slow. What would you do differently?: Work on the getting the wetsuit off faster. Bike
Comments: While this is my strongest area, I still have room for improvement. I always try to keep it on the edge of anerobic. So yeah, I could have been faster, but it would have had an impact on my run, I believe. I think I pushed it about right since my run was 8 min mile. What would you do differently?: nothing. More TT practice will push that threshold. Considering I've done absolutely no brick work this season, I think I know what I am doing as far as managing the bike pace because my run felt ok. Transition 2
Comments: nothing fancy here. Took time to take a swallow of coconut water and grab a hammer gel. What would you do differently?: brought a small bottle to carry instead of only a sip Run
Comments: Hot! Felt good first couple of miles but my breathing indicated I was pushing too hard. My watch showed sub 8's so I was happy. After mile 2, I kind of slowed down as we got to the field. It was dusty and HOT. I splashed water on my face to keep cool, but I could feel my pace slow. What would you do differently?: Maybe bring some ice cubes or a small bottle to carry. Considering my normal run pace, I am happy with the outcome. I know this is the area for me to make some gains. I can do better. Post race
Warm down: waaater What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, lack of trail running Event comments: Great value and distances good for 1st race and this time of year. Race is run very well and volunteers are some of the best I've seen. Last updated: 2011-04-30 12:00 AM

Up before the alarm, just before 5 am. Had coffee and stretched a lot since my left hamstring has been super tight. I didn't feel hungry for the oatmeal I planned, so drank a little Heed and ended up eating 1/2 of the breakfast cookie I packed on the way to the race site. I left the house at 6:20, after I pumped my tires and secured my water bottle. Got to the race site at 6:40.
Swam approx 150 yds to get acclimated to the water temp and to work on breathing in cold water. I am very glad I did it.
