Swim
Comments: Swim was terrible, never expected the rough start or how much the swim would hit me. Should have completed a couple OWS before the race. After the 200m I was gassed and had no energy left for the remainder of the course. I think by this point the level of the lake had dropped at least 3 inches because of the amount of water I had inhaled. Actually did majority of the race in back stroke sucking air. Of course my backstroke is all legs and a little arm flailing. Lost direction because of this and probably turned the distance into 1000m. What would you do differently?: Swim more, Swim more, Swim more in OPEN water. Only way to fix something is to keep working at it! Maybe that's my thoughts Swim straighter with better sight to avoid the extra 200m. Did I say swim more in open water? If not I need to swim more in open water! Transition 1
Comments: Easy transition, long time spent just getting from lake to Transition area, trying to catch my breath from the exciting swim. What would you do differently?: Drink less pond water, inhale less pond water (Did I say i tried to recover from swim) Bike
Comments: Overall not a bad ride, slower than I expected but the head wind for the long straight away took a little out of me. I was hoping for 17-18mph What would you do differently?: I think I could have pushed a lot harder than I did, still can't figure out how much effort to give. This will be something I train for over the next few months. Have to find a way to go to next level Transition 2
Comments: Not much to do here, only had to take helmet off and rack bike, pretty simple transition Run
Comments: Again not a bad run but still fighting the results of the swim, legs felt they had nothing left in them. Still managed to run what I felt was a fairly good race, my watch had the time under 29 minutes but not sure where I started it at. Had some problems with pacing, once again 1st mile was roughly 8 minutes and then everything petered out from there. I think final mile was well over 11 minutes, not sure though. What would you do differently?: Scout the course better, the hardest part of pacing was not knowing where the distances where, kept looking for the mile markers but did not find them, I think they were taped on the ground but I was seeing double by then. Post race
Warm down: Kissed my wife, hugged the kids and fell on the ground! Then managed to walk around for roughly 30 minutes until I had some feeling in my legs again. Stretched and drank a lot of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Drowning in the link, drinking too much lake water, using a kick to do the entire swim portion. (Arms felt great) Basically the entire swim took all of my energy away and laughed? Event comments: for 1st tri this was definitly a learning experience. I wil get the swim down one way or another. I think this may become a habit. Last updated: 2011-05-01 12:00 AM

Early morning up at 530am, drank coffee and had PB & J. Let the nerves start
bike for roughly 2 miles hour before race. Roughly 30 minutes prior to race went for short jog. Finished warm-up by taking short swim to feel out the water.
