Swim
Comments: First OWS. About halfway along the first leg I was hyperventilating. The water was cold. I could not exhale underwater. I got ran over by someone doing the backstroke from my right side to my left. Rounded the first buoy and started to panic as I could not breath. Flipped to my back. Had a hard time breathing and almost reached for my cap as that was the sign for help. Decided to fight through it. Did the rest of the swim alternating between back strokes and front crawl as I could. What would you do differently?: Acclimate to the water first. Need to slow down and take my time. Focus on steady breathing. Transition 1
Comments: Transition area was a in a muddy grassy field. The bike in\out was an muddy uphill path. Mud filled my shoes. Overall transition was not bad. I brought a large bin to keep everything dry and a dishpan to wash my feet which was nice due to the grass that got on them. What would you do differently?: Can't think of much other then work on transitioning faster. Bike
Comments: There was a south wind which made the first leg fast. I kept up a good pace, passed some people and got passed myself. Did well on the hills by downshifting. Saw a lot of people fight through higher gears. The south stretches were tough with the wind.1 What would you do differently?: More training. Increase leg endurance. Transition 2
Comments: Transition went well. What would you do differently?: Try to keep working on leaving shoes on but that would have made a mess of my socks with the mud. Run
Comments: Kept a steady pace. Legs felt good and solid during the first part of the run. Could get get any speed out. Was a lonely run and hard to keep focused with the constant curving gravel roads. Still have fun though. What would you do differently?: More training. Post race
Warm down: Walked a short while and grabbed some juice and a snack. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: Being my second race I enjoyed it. And it really helped me to focus on what I need to work on for Buffalo. Last updated: 2011-05-01 12:00 AM

Drove down to Albert Lea early. Decided to bring breakfast this time. Got their as transition was opening. Got a spot right on the end. Got used to the area, used the bathroom, ate breakfast and got changed. They had a building with a small bathroom. Changed early enough before the rain fell and the floor of the bathroom became a mess.
Did normal stretches.
