Swim
Comments: This was my first ows and first wave start so was not really sure what to expect. The first 50 yards or so where spent swimming heads up as there was so much congestion. After that things thinned out and went smoothly. I felt really good making the last turn and just stayed focused on my stroke rythem. What would you do differently?: Not sure there is much more I would do differently. My time was slower than normal but I chalk some of that up to the slow start of wave swims. Distance/endurance wise I feel I was spot on. Transition 1
Comments: Tried out a bucket to help with getting my shoes and socks on. Initially I was just going to stand and use the bucket as a prop but i realized i had drained a lot of water on the bucket and didnt want to get my socks wet so sat instead. The main reason for the slow transition was because of how far I was racked from the bike out. What would you do differently?: Other than race age group to get a rack closer to the front, nothing. Bike
Comments: I felt faster on the bike, but apparently lost time on that little uphill corner and into the wind for a while. I stayed on the drops most of the time, and shifted into the little ring once I realized I was fighting a head wind. Passed a lot of people on the bike and got passed by a few on the bike. What would you do differently?: Again just keep practicing, I drank a lot of gatorade on the bike and I think I need to carry a second bottle with water. I was feeling a bit full coming back in, but think I was also getting dehydrated from the heat. Transition 2
Comments: Congestion getting off the bike and coming into T2 and then the long run ot get to my bike rack on the other side of transition. Found my rack no problem put the bike up and took off. What would you do differently?: Not much here until i get running shoes. Run
Comments: This was hot and brutal. I set up my watch to do 50seond intervals, with the goal being run until it stops beeping and then walk until it beeps and repeat. This would have been 60s run with 40s walk. I just didn't have it in my legs to do that. I tried but I just couldnt get going. It felt like everytime I would start jogging that my heart rate would just skyrocket and not come back down while walking. What would you do differently?: Running is a real weak area for me, I just need to increase the amount of miles that I run on a weekly basis. Keep building up the running base. Post race
Warm down: Ultragen and lots of water Event comments: This was an awesome race. I think there was between 600-700 racers so that was cool. Great first ows, will definetly be doing this race again next year. Last updated: 2011-05-02 12:00 AM

Woke up and had my normal breakfast, had some race jitters but the normal routine calmed them down. Picked up my dad and headed to the race site.
Again not much warmup, had a gel right before the first wave went off.
