Pre-race routine:

Watched Nick (my Brother) compete in the triathlon (I was planning on just being a cyclist this weekend). Got race number pinned on, took some doing to get it right (first time with bike race #)
Event warmup:

Little bit of easy riding, little bit of tempo out the first mile or 2 of the course, then stood in line

Comments:

My first official cycling race. I was scheduled to go 8th in the Cat 5 group (1st group of the day). I got lined up and a guy held my bike so I could clip both shoes in to start. Little nervous about that, first time for that too. They were sending riders off in 30 second intervals.

They say go, so I went :). Made the first turn and head out. I saw a white car ahead that was turning right at the same place I was turning right. They turn and then slow WAY down. I had to slow and almost pass them on the left, but they got moving again. Probably cost me just a couple of seconds, but seemed longer at the time. The first stretch of this course is fast, but I knew there were some hills on the backside. Oh, well, give it hell anyway.

Legs felt good, took the corners well. I passed 3 riders, I think (may have been 4), who started before me. I did briefly run off the road on the back half of the course, headed back into town. My mind wondered for a minute and next thing I know is I'm in the gravel. I managed to ride it out and jump back on the road after finding a suitable spot to do so.

A couple of downhills and uphills close to the finish. Took the last downhill, made the right hand turn toward the finish, got out of the saddle and pushed it to the line.

I didn't stick around to see posted times (had to go get ready for road race), but ended up winning the Cat 5 TT by a little over 1 minute.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. This was one of the hardest paced races I've raced. Really pushed it hard. Maybe ride the course more than once before racing on it, but that is all...except for that new carbon bike ;)
Post race
Warm down:

Met with family, went and got stuff ready for road race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of high end bike and wheels. but did fine with what I have :)

Event comments:

I think there may have been drinks/food/gatorade down the street at the triathlon finish, but it was really never relayed to us.
