Swim
Comments: make sure you know which group you should be in, there were a couple people getting lapped every 100 because they thought they were faster than they really are. Transition 1
Comments: If your shoes are already on your bike be ready to get them on quickly as there is a turn fast approaching, otherwise wait until after that first turn. What would you do differently?: wear a tri suit, didn't think I'd need it, bike jersey was tough to pull over wet body. Bike
Comments: Overall a great course to ride. Out and back, well marked at the end so you won't go too far. Don't be affraid to push it, especially on the way back. What would you do differently?: I would ride a lot harder, This was my first triathlon and I was conserving too much for the run. Transition 2
Comments: Make sure you set up for transition toward the corner where you come in from the bike and leave for the run, it's the same spot, I didn't know, cost me at least 10 seconds to get to my shoes, big mistake. What would you do differently?: I would research the course better so I would know where we come in from the bike and go out for the run to place my gear in the best location for a quick transition. Run
Comments: There is one hill that you run up twice, if you're not a hill runner it could exhaust you, for everyone else it's short enough to just be a small hurdle. What would you do differently?: I would run harder, I was too concerned about my HR for a little 5k, my mistake for a new triathlete, next time I'll go harder. Post race
Warm down: Plenty of room to jog around campus or stretch. Or if you're really in the mood this year they had reps from "Spine and Sport" doing post race rub downs, I highly recommend this after you cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: The only thing that limited me was my mental preparation, I expected my first triathlon to be a lot harder and when I was done I still had WAY too much gas in the tank. Event comments: I hate to rate the race since it's my first one. Seemed well organized and a few of the veterans I talked to said it was, especially for being hosted by a fraternity on a college campus. It was a fun race and I'm sure I'll race it again next season. Last updated: 2011-05-05 12:00 AM
